Bud Ford out

Fron R & R
25-54: [EDIT] CITADEL Country WKDF slid from 6th to 8th. [EDIT]

CITADEL Sports WGFX had an off book, dropping from 5th to 12th. [EDIT]

WKDF went from 6th-8th...could this be why Bud is out? If so then the WGFX PD next?

One book doesn't make or break a PD. I would suspect there was a mix of things.

Zone typically drops off after football season. If you look at the breakdowns, you'll see that it slowly rises back up towards March Madness, but of course we're looking at a 3-month average here. The Dan Patrick delay was moved from nights to a fresher midday slot in order to bolster the time period and tighten up the number of live single hours. The audience demos keep the format lucrative. (Still can't believe they brought back the MMA hour, though.)

I have lived here for 16 years (since 1992) and during the time I have lived here, KDF was never a "rock" station. ::) Oh, they pretended to be, but in reality, they had not been a rocker since at least the '70s!

You're right. It's amazing how far away those days are now. Those circle KDF stickers were everywhere - I remember the peak being '78 or '79? It's all a fog to me now. It's funny to think that the far majority of those around don't make the connection between KDF and "the good ol days" and rightly so.

Don78 - After reading your post, I closed my eyes and could see the old Metropolitan Country commercial in my head.

Chris is right - as dated as it seems looking back on it, it was pretty popular at the time. And, seeing Gerry in some of the "best of" commercials lately has been hilarious. That monkey clip goes back a bit - early 90's?

I saw quite a few of those old KDF bumper stickers even way down in west Tennessee where I lived back about that time! And I lived way too far west to pick up KDF's signal! I remember once listening to 92FM in Jackson, and the DJ there said they got a call from someone in Waverly saying they (92) were outrocking KDF! I would say this was sometime in the mid '80s. Again, I was too far west to be able to say if 92FM was outrocking KDF or not. But given what I've seen and read here, I would say they were. And 92 was not a "rocker" at that time!

I'm curious about how far back this "metropolitan country" goes, and just exactly what it is, or was. Again, I've lived here for 16 years, and they've been "the big 98" the whole time I've been here. (It's 95.5 that has constantly changed their name and slogan while I've been living here. ::))

I think it goes back to the late 60's...but I remember hearing it for the first time in the fall of 1971.
Imagine instrumental beautiful-music country tunes...for hours on ends. Oh great: "The Living Strings". Again.
The format was dropped when GH moved from mornings on WSIX-AM to WSIX-FM...don't know the year off hand.

Some seriously long memories on this board! That time frame would take me back to first or second grade!

hey firepoint...
stay outta my yard! and no, you can't have your ball back.
:-\

I remember listening to them playing hootenanny (sp) music --- I think... or was that just a fleeting thought? Funny thing is I do remember listening before they went to Metro country ....and as I was telling my friend Lincoln, --- "Abe if you would loosen up a little and take off that silly looking hat."

But that's another story....however, I do believe Noel Ball played rock over on six for a while when they tried competing with kda and mak.

yep: you'd have to be really old to remember it...but
WSIX-AM did top 40 as "Rocket 98".
next veer off-topic: where was the WSIX-FM tower before they went on the
TV tower site (with ch 2/ch8) off Old Hickory Blvd?
