Bud Rocks!

Everything that Rocks? This certainly does. I'm talking about the Buzz in-house PR/promo spot in which Bud Walters explains why Bob & Tom will no longer be on the station, introduces Free Beer & Hot Wings, and calls out Big Corporate Radio. Now don't get me wrong, I'm not a fan of Bud, these stations, or these shows (I'm in favor of FCC rules strict enough to keep raunchy programming like B&T off the airwaves), but this spot is a great piece of radio. I'd heard about it before I actually heard the spot itself, and I'd like to pass along kudos to those who had a hand in putting it together.

Side note -- While Bud calls CC by name, he doesn't name Cumulus. By saying B&T is going to a weaker signal, there's almost a hint of suggestion to which frequency it's headed. The group-that-shall-not-be-named once again sounds like the kid who couldn't cut it with the big boys so he goes out and picks on the little ones.

Sounds interesting. Still, 97 or 1067 are smaller signals than 1029. Any guess on what'll happen? And when?

Buzz billboards look pretty awesome. You have to give 'em credit for trying to raise the bar.

Any comments on the Buzz musically? Should try to sound like Project 961, the new version of WKLS (96 Rock)
Interesting demo to target, though. I think the death of 96Rock is harder on Atlanta listeners than 103 KDF's
flip --- well, pretty close. Interesting reading on the ATL board.

While I actually like the sound and image of Project961, but I haven't listened to Buzz enough to compare, so I
won't trash them yet:)

I heard it Tuesday...didn't hear the first few seconds...didn't know it was Bud.
Perfect example of why management shouldn't do voice work.

Well I'm going to make all of you mad when I say this, but it's Bud's station and Bud's money. He can do what he wants, and bought and paid for it. If he wants to go on there and play on air personallity, he can, it's his money!

Look, I have no intention to be a jerk saying this but that promo is horrible. Asnwer me this.......IS THIS THE WAY YOU'D LAUNCH YOUR COOL NEW MORNING SHOW?

What ever happend to creative radio. This launch compairs to this markets recent launches of new radio stations and formats...where is the imagination? where is the crativity?

Like I said, it's his station, his money, he can go do what he wants to do, if you like it or not. Bud probably could care less what we think!

He isn't doing voice work. He's not cutting a spot or working as a jock. He is taking an opportunity (as the OWNER) of the station to explain to his listeners why their morning show is going away. Personally, I think its fairly brilliant to (for once) be up front and honest with the listening public as to why something is changing at the radio station, instead of the usual 'erase their voices from the station, their faces from the website, and pretend they were never here' approach, and then let people like us speculate and spread rumors.

Yeah, his voice isn't great, but its no worse than the damn Shane jewelers spot.
