Bud Select Zone Is Done

As I type this, Joe Williams and crew are wrapping up the final "Bud Select Zone" on 104.5. It was a mutual agreement to end the show, given the live sports events that they will be airing soon. The talent will continue to be heard on Sunday mornings, however.
______________

The BUD Zone was a strange experiment but I must say I am now a Joe Williams fan and wish him the best. He has a good knowledge of local issues and I'm sure he will do well. I didn't hear what was going to be on when there are no Predators/Grizzlies - are they going to fill in w/ Fox?

Good riddance! 104.5 just took a major step toward sounding a lot better.

While the BUD Zone that was the contest desperately needed to end, live sports talk in their 7-10 p.m. slot did not need to end. I'm available many nights to listen after 7 p.m., and I'm disgusted with the coarseness of the Fox show that's on at that time. I'd much rather hear even the second bananas that have joined Joe on the show for one or two nights a week than what Fox has to offer in those hours. I've heard this complaint many times from others, it makes me wonder if we haven't been vocal enough, or if GFX just don't care? If they won't do local, anyone know of anything else they could carry?

One idea that was floated, given all of the sports and news talk stations Citadel owns in SEC territory, was that they should have a nightly regional program that the stations air when they're not running a game in their area. It would be much cheaper to produce because a group of stations would share the cost. What keeps that kind of endeavor from the air? Logistics? Sales? Cooperation?

You forgot one. Incompetence.
______________

Locally or regionally, or both?

I've always wondered why they don't do more regionally. Big Orange Sunday is the only one they share with Sports Animal in Knoxille, they could do more. Also, I've heard a couple of guys from WJOX in Birmingham on the Zone, but I could count those visits on one hand.

It's still several weeks before weeknight games begin. At the least they could fill the 7-8 and 8-9 hours M-F with coach and player shows, or syndicated material until JT comes on at 9:00. I'll take Titan replays or replays of the Plumbing Pro over Fox from 7-9.

Why listen to the coarseness of the Fox show when you can listen to a local sports show. WLAC has a great sports show...not to mention the Vols! I think that may be a good alternative to GFX bailing on the local scene. Duncan, Brent and Conn are knowledgable and have a ton of fun too. I'll be switching to 1510.

Go BIG ORANGE!

You are right. I haven't tuned in since the Bell days, but I guess I'll have to try it out again. I've never been an Orange fan though, so that's not a plus for me. I'd really like to be able to tune in one channel and rip the knob off, but the Zone keeps fighting against me in trying to do that. Maybe they aren't capable of competing with 1510 in that slot...

I'm with you there. The fox show w/ James Washington is garbage. I can't listen to that with my family in the car. Fox needs an overhaul in that time slot. I like the national talk then because that is when guests/players are on the air but not FOX. It's too hard to get a good local sports show because they are always being preempted.
