Bud Wertheimer passes

After a long illness, Albert "Bud" Wertheimer passed away last night in Syracuse. Bud, as the President of The Lincoln Group, was the guy who gave me the opportunity of a lifetime when he sent me to Buffalo to manage WBUF-FM in 1984.

The 7 years that followed were among the best of my 28 years in the radio business. One of the brightest men I've ever known, Bud was always very supportive and willing to provide the tools we needed to get the job done.

As Stan Roberts, former WBUF morning man, wrote to me in an email earlier this week, "All of us are better people for having been in his sphere of influence". No one who ever worked with Bud would disagree.

Thank you, Bud. Rest in peace.

Larry White

One of the giants in our industry and in our region. Deepest condolences to all who knew him and worked with him.

WBUF under Larry and Jay Meyers was a wonder....and Bud was gracious when it came time to step aside with the inevitable tide of consolidation. His passing is a reminder of a better time long past.

A very nice tribute Larry!

Larry White captured the essence of Bud Wertheimer's many accomplishments...while I never met Mr. Wertheimer myself, you get a good sense of the broadcaster he was not just from Larry, but if you have the chance to talk with his friend and former business partner Jack Palvino you'll hear him credit Bud with a great deal of what Lincoln Group accomplished over the years.

Broadcasting today needs a lot more people like Bud Wertheimer and Jack Palvino...they, and others I had the pleasure of working with like Buffalo's Larry Levite, were the model of local and regional community-minded broadcasting. They are much missed...

I won't change Call Me Sherlock's eulogy. (He covered it all)
I will say, that Bud gave me a double take opportunity unheard of today! After leaving Lincoln from WVOR (under, shall we say those...not so great circumstances?) I found myself several months later working for Sherlock...at WBUF. ;D
To this day, I'm not sure if it was Sherlock or Bud that made that happen for me....but I can bet it wouldn't have happened if Bud didn't know and trust his people!! I had "some" conversations with Bud...but when I did...it wasn't "Mr. Wertheimer"...it was "Bud"!! I enjoyed MY time wiith the Lincoln Group...and truly feel a loss of "one of our own" with his passing.

Reluctantly....That's all :(
