Buddy Poole has heart surgery

http://www.salisburypost.com/article/20130926/SP01/130929799/0/SEARCH&slId=4

He was morning host on WIST from the time it was Contemporary Christian WFAZ to its days playing Timeless Classics. Then he bought his own station and now plays music similar to Timeless Classics (Dial Global provides most of the music), the only station in the Winston-Salem area that does this type format. Greensboro listeners are pretty much out of luck.

It'll take several weeks but he really wants to get back on the air.

I heard a commercial for his official return tomorrow. It sounded like some special sports program where he won't be a host but just a guest.

Okay, I got the full details. I wasn't listening to his station at the time (and I wasn't even in the car until around 12:45, and even then not that much) because I always welcome the opportunity to hear WAVO, but the substitute morning DJ said he would be at a gas station from 11 to 2. I assume that means there would be some live broadcasts from there, because he said it was his return to the air.

His return to the morning show is coming soon.

He has already provided commentary on two Catawba College football games but his son (or at least someone else) is still the one doing play-by-play.

He was back on the morning show this morning.

I don't know which version of "Mockin' Bird Hill" he played but it was a female soloist, so that would probably mean Patti Page. Although Les Paul plays guitar while Mary Ford sings.

I was worried his station was going in the wrong direction, though most of the music was satellite delivered and that still sounds good.

I worked with Buddy when he managed the former WTHP-FM in High Point on a part time basis doing PMD from 4 till 8PM.
The station was owned at that time by the Thomas Family (Thomas Built Busses) and we were playing oldies off CDs at the time.
Buddy was good to me,can't say anything bad about him. He spent most of his time out selling advertising for THP. The station was 10.000 watts If memory serves me right. It was so funny that I worked about 3 air shifts then Buddy wanted me to ride with him in the High Point Christmas parade.I think it was Buddy's convertible with WTHP-FM banners on each side. I'm sure people watching the parade didn't know who the Sam Hill I was nor Buddy for that matter. The station is now Hispanic and managed by an old radio friend of mine Wes Jones. Hmm I wonder if Wes even knows what they are saying on the air?
