Buddy Shula buys WECK

Buddy sounds like he's channeling Trump.
WECK will be a "Servent" of the "Comminuity" (sic)..!!!

Good luck with the station Mr. Shula.
Can the public stop in for a Cup of Ego and a
spelling lesson? When you own the Blowtorch WECK,
You don't need to be humble...

You might calm down the invective and the political innuendo. You don't wear it well.

Anyone who, today, makes the personal and financial commitment to investing in a local AM station and then hires a group of experienced, well-known talents should be complimented.

Better yet, why not just run along now and go get some therapy. You offer nothing worthwhile. Goodbye.

Sounds like Buddy's got some big plans! Tom Donahue, John Summers, Harv Moore, Mike Jacobs and Dan Neaverth (Fridays only) rumored to be onboard at WECK beginning in July. Should be fun and entertaining.

More people on staff than in the listening audience.

Catch is, we don't know HOW many because they don't show up in the Arbitron ratings(at least, not the ones that are made public; WBFO's in the same boat).

WECK doesn't subscribe to Nielsen and it would be an unwise
expense anyway. The impossible to hear AM signal is perfect
for the hearing impaired target audience. If the new owner can
make it work, then props to him for giving it a go.

WBFO does subscribe to ratings, but isn't listed on the
quarterly public results...

Many very successful stations that don't sell to ratings-based accounts do not buy ratings. They have their own, and perhaps better, ratings: the cash register of the businesses they run campaigns for.

Even some larger broadcasters, like Saga, don't subscribe in all markets because they just don't need ratings to sell to their advertiser base. They sell results, not numbers.

Yet WECK has averaged a 2 share for the last 3 years in Nielsen and had a cume of over 40,000 persons. With Buddy's recent programming moves, we can expect it to do even better!

It does not take that many listeners in the WECK coverage area (which is nearly 800,000 in the 5 mV/m zone on the AM and half a million in the FM coverage area) to get results for reasonable priced, well written and nicely delivered spots on a local station that bonds with a specific audience.

The corner gas station knows it is not going to get the truck stop business from semi drivers on a tiny little urban lot. But there is plenty of money to be made from the local traffic so they don't put up billboards on the interstate!

You discount a pretty darn good FM translator. If you're in the market, try tuning 102.9. It gets out pretty well for the bulk of the population in WNY, and sounds good.

Those who are subscribed, including agencies, do know.

But, as I said, they are not going to be going after transactional business. It's a totally different business model and one that Buddy knows as well as anyone in Buffalo.

They have a staff of 43,000? That's pretty big!

(Nielsen 12+ cume, Winter 2017)

Mr. E, isn't quoting the ratings of a non subscriber station some
kind of high crime & misdemeanor? Not to worry, I'm sure the
Nielsen Cops aren't reading this forum...

When generalized, and not specific to demo or book as in "an average of"... it's not going to get any attention.

Weck does not show up in ratings?? Are you serious. Why don't you check 50 plus neilson. Dude, your a really dumb guy when it comes to the radio business
