Buddy... The One Trick Pony

Buddy did a great job discussing the aftermath of the storm on Friday, it still had merit on Monday. My question is, how many days can he pound the exact same points over and over again? Does he have so little on his plate that he has to repeat the same points and pick on John Simmons day after day? It gets old very quickly. The snow is melting guys, we get it.

And as more and more comes to light (sounds like Dan Yorke is lining up the Providence EMA director for tomorrow's show) there is more to the availability of Esserman, Cicilline and Simmons during the storm (from Dan's discussion with Ch 6's Mr. Hummel on tonights show).

Good thing that we have LOCAL talk radio to have these things talked about because I don't think you'll hear any of this on Beck, Limbaugh or Hannity (maybe Savage; but he is too caught up w/ the SF story right now)

I wonder what nuggets JD & Dan will have tomorrow...for those that don't like it, story still has legs

well i said it in a previous post and ill say it again.... im glad there still on it..... because nothing get done in RI cause people forget and wanna change the subject to quickly..... a few people lost there jobs already.... and id like to see a few more go.... they should stay on this topic for as long as it takes...... just my opinion though

The beat goes on...... Same old Buddy moaning about the snow storm almost two weeks ago. Beating up on Cicilline and his staff (who sucked), but! If you're going to keep up this beaten to death topic, was Providence the only place where problems occured? He tipped his hat today and finally admitted that he will be ready to run for Mayor again when he's eligible. Unbiased? Okay.

Either Buddy will continue to talk about the storm (or) he will start talking about where he's eating dinner every day again. You decide which is worse.

Could everybody remember that Buddy was off when the big "Report" was released last week? Also, there has been news articles in the Pro-Jo the past 3 days since the report which have continued it, so it isn't just Buddy.....should it continue after the holiday, probably not; but then again, you guys are complaining that there isn't enough local talk and now that there is an event that is generating local talk, all you do is complain....if there weren't calls still coming in on it, it would be done....but there are still calls.

Did you hear the show? After a week and a half, it is not about the storm. He is up on his pedestal about Cicilline and all of his mishandling, continuing to find ways to bash John Simmons on a daily basis. There were not many calls!!!! He is beating a Dead horse because he has nothing else to talk about. There is enough to complain about in this state if he would do any homework at all. Read yesterday's paper. Tons of material. I used to believe wknd that you were a Citadel apologist. You swear you're not, you may have a point. You are a Buddy apologist. Wknd....The 'little' emporer has no clothes, and you see him fully dressed.

And that emporer would be Cicilline. Buddy has enough knowledge to be critical of the mayor and Mr. Simmons, both of whom were at home along w/ Supt Evans while the Chief of police was up on pawt Ave at Gold's Gym working out some stress....

Question-to get from city Hall to Mayor Cicilline's pad on College Hill (if it is still where it used to be) he had to see the problems on Water St & South Main St and the Chief also had to see what was going on at Pleasant Valley/Dean, the Service Roads/Broadway and/or South Main St/Branch & Charles to get to the gym from police HQ (let alone just poke his head out of the window at the HQ) along with the Supt seeing problems between Westminister & Wickenden St; but no one stepped up until 7:30pm....why is that? Why wasn't the mayor acting point & only set up a command center after 9pm at night? Why was he on the phone to all the TV Stations (except Ch 6) and not infront of cameras? Why is Buddy still jabbing and asking questions is because Ron was fielding questions all show on Friday from outraged callers/emailers (and today, there weren't many calls because everybody was getting ready for X-mas (did you notice the light spot load not only on Pro; but every other station in the market?).

I am not a Cianci or Citadel apologist as I have been accused and answered to many times in the past. What I cannot stand to see is the unbiased poo I see flung up on these boards on a daily basis. IT SHOULDN"T BE ABOUT THE STORM! It was 4-8" of snow.....that should be no problem for the city to handle...there are still streets on Federal Hill, the North End, Silver Lake, College Hill that up until last night's rain had slush/ice...why? What are the taxpayers of Providence (including my parent's) paying taxes for?...surely not for the Mayor, the Chief of Staff, the School Supt and Police Chief to be at home or away from their jobs when there is bedlam in the streets...

Buddy talking about it (along w/ Dan, JD, Helen & Matt) should have the required effect....CHANGE!

Merry Christmas Wknd,

Let's discuss the title of the thread, then you're response/defense of the former Mayor. The question is not whether or not the current Mayor did a horrible job along with his so-called department heads during this weather event. I was the first to admit Buddy was perfect with his comments/reaction the day after the storm. The topic is, when is it time to go on with another subject when B.C. can use his brilliance to create the great talk radio he is capable of? Instead of that, he continues to pound a defenseless lame duck like the Patriots have, against all of their unworthy advocates. It's a waste of $300,000 a year or so.

I respect your opinion; but disagree. Buddy is hitting home on this subject for the reason it needs to be...there are elections afoot (primaries happening for national offices in 2 months) and some of these local officials are looking at higher seats. The former mayor is right to continue to bang the drum as he has. Look at the job JD did prior to running up to Boston during Plunderdome against Buddy, pretty much doing the same thing...banging the drum every day. Look at in the early 1990's when the credit union fiasco happened, look at the Pawtucket Mayor situation between Sarrault and Weygand, look at the Station Fire aftermath....the drum continued to be banged (and by the way, JD & Helen & Dan have all been doing it too)...the TV News and Pro Jo have been still running stories as well (new story to follow-what happened in the Town of Lincoln where the plow was taken to the official's home in EP to clear the driveway).
Look at the backtracking that has gone on from the Governor's side....criticizing Dan one day and , wait....much like a football game, upon further review, the call on the field is reversed, Dan is right-the Governor is wrong. He lashed out w/o doing all of his due diligence as to what happened. I expect we will see more backtracking on the Mayor's side as the next week unfolds because of things that have come to light-Esserman being at Gold's Gym, the city EMA director talking, some of the comments the DPW head has made both on camera and in print. This mayor has aspirations to run this state when Gov Don is done....if he can't keep his city in check, how is he going to handle the state. It appears to me that he has a number of problems with unions, this si not the first time the communications has been horrendous in a storm, the last time a similar thing happened and he commissioned a report (again, something Buddy has been pointing out for the last 2 weeks) that communications would be better....well it didn't. Let Buddy continue (along w/ JD, Dan and Helen) to continue to raise the issue each day because this small community here by in no means reflects the pulse of what is happening in the general populace....

Supposedly Esserman is really unfit to be a Chief of Police. The reason why he was in the Gym is
he HAD to workout, because he SOILED himself earlier. It's all over the Prov Police Dept. It was mentioned on
Buddies show. Bottom line is Esserman is LUCKY nobody died, because he left the city flat.
I'm not a big fan of Buddy, but I would think he has alot of wiggle room due to Essermans stupidity.

Actually the column below reflects what the greater populace is thinking. Talk radio has been the prime mover and shaker in building up the hysteria surrounding a half day long snowstorm from day one. This storm is a classic case of the media feeding on itself to keep a story building. Rest of the world has moved on.....and long ago.
The hilrious irony of the column? It's from Dan Yorke's hometown newspaper. Hope Danny doesn't have a donut in his mouth when reading this. ;D

TOM WARD - Snowstorms come and go, but blame game is forever

Sorry, but I'm not blaming anybody. Snowstorms happen.

It's been a week since a late fall storm blanketed northern Rhode Island with a foot of light snow, and still, tongues are wagging about the state's reaction to the "crisis." The poster children of the calamity are those poor kids who spent hours on Providence school buses, some coming home as late as 11 p.m. from their school day.

Could the state have done a better job of communicating with us? Yes. Should the Providence superintendent of schools have known that his kids were still on the bus during the evening? No doubt about it. But at the end of the day, sometimes, it's our own fault, combined with bad luck.

In many ways, this storm reminded me of the early hours of the Blizzard of '78, the storied storm you will all be reminded of ad nauseam in early February as we "celebrate" its 30th anniversary. That storm arrived with a vengeance in late morning and, with about nine inches on the ground by 4 p.m., paralyzed traffic across the state, and it was just getting started. This storm was no blizzard, but timing is everything, and my view is that every time a major snowfall begins in late morning, we're in for a mess. There's no stopping it.

The Valley Breeze article sounds like I could have written it. It shares my point exactly. This means that Dan will probably bust two new blood vessels once he reads it and Matt better have an extra cloth or two nearby to wipe off Dan's sweating forehead.

It isn't an article, it is an editorial.....an opinion piece, which the last time I looked, you all have been bashing JD, Buddy, Dan, Matt, Paul G, Ron, Helen et al for having...an opinion.

Actually I've been bashing them for having an agenda in taking a half day long snow storm and attempting to turn it into "an acute crisis" as Dan Yorke termed it last Friday. Tom Ward injected some badly needed reason into the overhyped movie playing in WPRO's collective head. BTW don't put Helen Glover in with the WPRO crowd on this. Helen has been very reasonable in her comments on this topic.
The ridiculous hype machine belongs to WPRO which saddens me. Other than Depetro who's a classless jerk they're usually pretty level headed about things at WPRO. This story went so far off the tracks the station turned into one big propaganda machine with everyone spewing the same line.
What Tom Ward wrote are sentiments shared by many but those sentiments were never heard and that's problematic.
I've always loved talk radio for its' lack of a herd mentality you so often find with TV and print media.
This was all herd radio where the rhetoric about the storm was far greater than the storm itself.
Not good!

I agree with Radiohead. This was clearly all hype that started at WPRO. Then it just snowballed from there. WPRO should have shut up after Matt was on the air until 11 PM that evening. That night I turned off my radio having a higher opinion of that station than I have in years. They could have ended this story with class by stopping it there. Instead they ruined all the good they created that night and turned things into a sideshow. It's just become a finger pointing contest where each host is trying to outdo each other. It's no longer about the storm. Now it's all about each host trying their best to be the star performer. You would have to be an idiot to not see that.

Well said Skynet and you're absolutely right. Their programming the night of the storm was outstanding and what radio is all about. Awesome! But in the days that followed it's like they all took personal ownership of this thing and it became their story. They has no time and no tolerance for opposing views. Heck for a week straight they had no time or tolerace for other topics. A few callers tried to inject some reality into their world and were quickly dismissed. Very disappointed with WPRO.
Hate seeing the herd mentality/group think at any talk radio station.

ok...let's just ignore the Tv stations, the Pro-Jo, Helen's show (gee, wasn't she the show that had the Mayor on after the storm?)....damn Citadel for continuing to pound this story because it is the second time that both Carcieri and Cicilline have failed in a snowstorm AND the second time that both administrations have failed in the last 3 months (anyone remember I-way....downtown was a mess during that too). God forbid they do their jobs and don't cater to Head or Skynet (you think RI has problems, when the hell are you moving to Ca again?...not soon enough)

WPRO could take a giant dump on your head...... and you would still figure out a way to defend them.
