Buddy... The One Trick Pony

Week, think you'll find a WPRO theme with their coverage of both the I-way and the snow storm and that theme would be how both events caused major commuter inconvenience for talk show hosts at.........WPRO! ;D
Coincidence that both events caused major hysteria at WPRO as 90% of their listening audience was unaffected by WPRO's "acute crisis"?
I've long maintained if their studio was in Westerly and not EP they'd sing a very different tune about these "acute crisis".
Don't you get it?? It's all about them.

ok i guess wknd and i are the only ones that think alike on this topic... bottom line it was NEWS........ LOCAL NEWS and stuff needed to change after the piss poor responce from the state.... and WPRO had some what of a roll in that happining..... (ie depetros interview) so im happy that at least somone stuck with this till something happened......... hell i hope something else major happeneds so pros hosts will stick with it and mabe eventually clean that god forsakin state house out

Sky...if you ask some people, WPRO did do just that (or at least some people in the crystal offices did) when I decided to leave. HJBone, wkrp-fm, shawn d are a few that could back that up.....don't make assumptions on what I have been thru because you and head weren't there, so you have no idea.

wknd misses the point that even though several media outlets blew things out of proportion, it all originated with WPRO. They kicked off this clown show and others followed. The hosts of WPRO turned it into a media circus. You could pick any topic on the planet and do the exact same thing that WPRO did. Pick a subject and then continue to build off it until you find a enough problems to turn it into a major story.

For example I could pick Dan Yorke as a subject. I could investigate every nook and crany of his existance. Where did he go to school? Did he switch schools? If so...Why? Where did he work? Was he fired or did he leave on his own? Were his ratings low in Springfield? Was he an A-hole to work with? Let's interview his former coworkers and get some juicy information. Was he a slacker at work? Does he steal pencils? What is the company policy at Citadel on people who steal from work? (Of course all of this is hypothetical. I don't think Dan steals from work. But what if he does?)

Then what would happen if somebody called NBC 10 and reported that Dan is a theif? A NOTHING story would then snowball and turn into a big mess. This is what WPRO has done. They keep searching and searching until they find things. My whole point is that if you look hard enough you can find scandal ANYWHERE. I'm not impressed. Normally a station will try to report news. WPRO is busy trying to CREATE it. That's not cool.

Sky, think you are missing the point. WPRO was not alone....Ch 6 was on the air until 8p, right? Ch 6, 10 & 12 cut in every hour during that mess, Ch 64 for the 1st 15 minutes were all over the story on their 10pm newscast. What did the Pro-Jo have on the front page for over a week????? Oh, that's right, the mess that WPRO started. My mistake....how silly of me....don't know why Jim Hummel was walking around finding out about Esserman being up in Pawtucket working out, that Evans was at home the next day....why would he do that, he doesn't work for WPRO...why was Sean Daly down at the DPW and over at the DOT...WPRI sounds a lot like WPRO; but that isn't it....

ok... we can go round and round wknd. But I'm getting dizzy. Truth is that I respect you and your views. We don't need to agree. I'm glad that you are here. You've always had some pretty intelligent opinions and I respect that. I even find that egghead Yorke mildy amusing.... even though we often disagree. I've always liked Depetro and the same goes for Cianci. I even like Ronzo. So it's not that I don't like WPRO. Truth is that I like them a lot. They are easily the shining star of Rhode Island radio. I just think they went a little nuts this time. That is all.

It's all good though. It keeps things interesting. I'm just glad that we finally have something to talk about on this board. Last year at this time it seemed that all hope was lost for Rhode Island radio. At least things got a jolt. Now let's hope that some other stations in the market get a much needed jolt. So far WPRO is the only station that has woken up.

LOL , as far as other stations needing a jolt.... i think tony bristol needs one so he can actually do something with pro fms night show....... and how come when the morning show is on vacation they cant cover it with someone live.... the just run the same "flash backs" that we have heard 10 times over and over again..... any reason for that........ not to change the subject but i had to add this

We jumped from Buddy to Gio? If we get any snow soon we'll be back to Buddy. Anyway, I think the reason for flashbacks is unless they allow only 1 person on vacation at a time PRO-FM really can't duplicate the same kind of morning show the audience is used to when the whole team is out. I don't think they'll lose listeners by having someone fill in but it's a matter of consistency.

Exactly!! Looking back on it the behavior of WPRO talk hosts was laugh out loud funny. They were caught in their own echo chamber of their own manufactured "acute crisis". The reality was simply a snow storm that came and went in a half day as did the traffic problems it brought to bear because of the timing of the storm. To hear WPRO and other local media lemmings tell the story we were finding frozen bodies in stranded cars for days.... ;D
And their desire to interrogate every public official "where were you, what were you doing at 8:05 pm om Thursday evening??".......hilarious!!
My favorite is when they went hysterical after the RIEMA director got fired. Here's a guy who's very job it is to coordinate/comunicate during events like snow storms, floods, etc. This bozo goes on the radio and publicly admits to not doing his job, gets canned and rightfully so and WPRO goes crazy in wanting an "official" reason for his obvious, self evident and very justifiable firing.
An echo chamber filled with runaway egos!
Looking back on it...very funny stuff. Straight from those Naked Gun movies. :D

Week, you're making my point for me. WPRO is usually and refreshingly not part of the media herd and the superficial over-the-top hype mentality they bring. Until now!! Very disappointed in WPRO. Hoping next time they'll do better in the let's keep things in their proper perspective department. To have Dan Yorke term a week old half day snow storm "an acute crisis" is embarrassing and superficial. I expect it from Sean Daly. I expect it from the ProJo. I have little respect and no trust in the accuracy and integrity of the print and TV media around here. I don't expect it nor do I want to hear it from WPRO. They can do better. Kudos to them for outstanding coverage the night of the storm. Sadly after that day they only served to fire up the herd with their foolish and dramatic hype. Unfortunate!

What a surprise !! More than a month later, Buddy's still talking about the 6" snow storm that wouldn't die.

UMMMMMM did you miss the story in today's paper about the city council setting up a committee to investigate as the mayor's office is trying to stonewall their inquiries, still? Sounds like news that is timely, especially about a mayor with aspirations of the Governor's office....

Ummmmm, I get the West Bay section that had nothing about blaming Cicilline for the snow today. There were articles about tearing down the factory, and another about giving out smoke detectors. Thank God Buddy was there to remind us for umpteen time that the current Mayor screwed things up. I actually got it the 50th time he told me.

Did you catch the news at 10 on Fox 64 or the 11 o clock news on WJAR or ABC 6? It was talked about on all of them tonight too....
