Air America, WLIB/NY Reach Deal
INNER CITY BROADCASTING and AIR AMERICA RADIO have reached a deal for the network to continue to broadcast on WLIB-A/NEW YORK. The parties issued a statement announcing that "over the next several months, AIR AMERICA and INNER CITY will seek to enhance and extend their long-term relationship."

“We are happy to reiterate that our NEW YORK listeners will be able to continue to hear our programming,” AAR CEO DANNY GOLDBERG said in a press release; ICBC's SKIP FINLEY added that the company "has always had faith in the mission of AIR AMERICA." AIR AMERICA leases time on WLIB to air its programs; the deal between the two parties came under question in recent weeks after reports of a dispute over the latest quarterly payment arose, but the THURSDAY statement indicates that the dispute has been settled. <P ID="signature">______________

Wasn't it Mark Twain who wrote, in essence, that "the reports of my death are pre-mature?" The lunatic rightwingers will now parse the news-release for ANY sign of the imminent demise of AAR; to their chagrin, there isn't any.

Go back to your Limbaugh drug-induced euphoria and keep repeating your mantra: "Bush is NOT falling in the polls...Bush is NOT falling in the polls...Bush is NOT falling in the polls."

Your numbers are shrinking.

Gee, I thought liberals liked recreational drugs. If liberals have turned around on drugs because of Rush, he has more power than I thought. Of course, when liberals did drugs, they listened to progressive rock - not progressive talk. They didn't set around posting on blogs and message boards, they got in the streets and actually protested an illegal war. And they called the people beating them with clubs and throwing tear gas at them "pigs" - not "heroic first responders." And there was none of this "we support the troops" BS either. A generation before that liberals were beaten by company goons on picket lines, getting fired and black listed from their jobs, and getting subpeonas from people like Nixon, McCarthy and Bobby Kennedy. Air America is a sorry example of the flaccid state of the American left.

A couple of things....

Why does the success of liberal talk radio seem to hinge on whether AAR succeeds? It appears to me that even if AAR fails that liberal based talk radio will continue to play.

Second why the rant about Bush? Why would you consider right wingers to be lunatics? (This is a radio board)

Third, I would not exactly say that AARs numbers are anything to crow about.

Fourth Happy St Pattys Day!

MEGA ROFL! I was thinking the same thing, but you beat me to it. But let me beat you by guessing the spin Baloney will try out to make up for his latest gaffe:

"In a desperate last minute reprieve, Air America was bailed out of certain insolvency and legal problems by George Soros who took out his foreign money checkbook and wrote a big one to keep WLIB with Air America. Some people say this effectively turns control of the liberal talk radio dial in America over to foreign interests with questionable backgrounds. Sources tell the Equalizer that this may violate federal law, which explains why the talent at Air America are all trying to leave the building and relocate as far away from the epicenter of criminal corruption that would be exposed if not for the liberal media in this country controlling the New York press to keep this story out of the headlines. Other pressure groups are also involved, according to sources (insert Photoshop fun picture of Al Franken looking especially Jewish here.)"

See, you don't even need the failed right wing talk show host. You can do his blog yourself. Just spray some Obsession for Men (from Calvin Klein), close your eyes, remind yourself how jealous you are that you are on the outside of the radio business looking in, quietly tapping on the door and fogging up the windows, then decide it is all Al Franken's fault that you have been reduced to blogging. Tap tap tap... plink plink plink some more....

Yeah, this from the guy who signs on to this board using the name "Slick Willy." Are you Bill Franklin now dropping your first name in an ongoing effort to avoid embarrassment?

Sorry, I have no idea what you're talking about. And I don't see any connection to what the original post said.

As a newbie, I am uncomfortable with all the personal attacking that goes on. Some people like a program or host. Others don't. Radios have tuners. Nobody is forced to listen to anything. Why all the intolerance for different listening preferences to the point of trying to discredit individuals. If you like Air America fine. If somebody else would rather listen to Pacifica fine.

Now I suppose I will get it with both barrels. I can't quite agree with the original points but I think some valid points were raised. Some in the Democratic party have favored "moderate" candidates and positions in the name of being more "electable." Maybe a reasonable person could conclude a radio network has done something similar. That seems to be a point worth discussing.

As I recall, similar points were raised about Rush Limbaugh when he started hewing to the official Republican party line of the first George Bush (and away from the views of people like Pat Buchanan).
