WYRK is in a downward spiral at the moment. The Wolf has sank back to a 1.5, so they obviously aren't the reason for WYRK's current slide. Maybe Buffalo doesn't need two stations serving Cow Pie.

The "New" 96.1 only has a mediocre 4 share. The EMF station isn't listed, so only other subscribers can see where they stand since Audacy sold 102.5...

WBEE in Rochester has suffered a slide, though not as bad as WYRK's. MAYBE people are getting sick and tired of "bro country"...maybe it's in one of the interminable cycles that stations go through....who knows?

Yeah, that WYRK number is most curious. A "WTFazuhk?!" number, for sure. But first, give it up for WECK. Most impressive. Same for WHTT. WGR up a tick but most would think it would have been better. This is July-August-September distilled to "September" ... do you remember.

Oldies WECK had a very good report, but they are still far behind the Classic Hits & Classic Rock stations. It should be noted that WECK has higher ratings than WBUF (1.7) and The Wolf(1.5) even when combined. Other than the lifeless WBUF, this looks like a "Rock Book". WECK is very effective at serving the 55 + demos, which most Radio companies shun as Lepers...

More than a few radio stations would kill to have WECK's 4.3, which is up from a 3.5. Selling 55+, even 65+ "direct" can produce a comfortable return in WNY. WECK knows how to cast its lines where the fish swim, and has the sellers to reel in the fish.

More than likely, WHTT has a heavy 45-55+ core. But does it have the sales vigor that WECK possesses? 97 Rock, even though it's likely doing top five, maybe top three, shares 25-44 Men with Shredd and Ragan in morning drive, probably looks very healthy, Men 55+. Classic Rock being the new "music of (what's left of) your life" format.

On the flip side, there's WEBR and WLVL. "Something for everyone" translates into a share under point five share Persons 12+. It's like a bad rummage sale of the airwaves.

That's always the conundrum. Old listeners vs No listeners.
WECK is locally owned, so they have found a business model that works for 55 + demos. The ratings are irrelevant if it doesn't lead to revenue. 97 Rock and WHTT must be almost all 50 plus as well. One assumes that WECK offers cheap ad rates compared to Cumulus.

John Sebastian has found ratings success with the WOW Factor in Arizona. It's aimed at Upper Upper demos. People like David have said it's questionable if sales revenue has materialized...

Keep in mind the "bro country" era was about 8-10 years ago. This week, the #1 song is by a woman named Lainey Wilson.

Country as a format is very strong in other cities. The aggregate share for the format is just slightly down this month from a two year high. So the situation might be more about the strength of the urban format rather than any weakness in the country format.

More than likely WYRK's latest number is due to one lousy, terrible, really bad month where the core in-tabs went into the toilet, the diary return was wiggly, and nothing went right. It happens. Kinda like the Bills-Jaguars game in London. One game does not a season make. One month does not a book make ... but it sure as heck can screw things up and get posters on this board to pound their keyboards. Along those lines, WECK could have had a great month when the stars and moon were aligned. The real proof of what's going on for WECK and WYRK will be a few more monthlies. WBLK and 97 Rock seem to be doing very well with the "consistency factor;" no big drops, no big gains.

Check your headline ckg279! Buffalo/Toronto September '23 Trends? Huh?
Every monthly issuance of a Nielsen report is now a "book" and there are no "trends" any longer. And, of course, Toronto is not a US market and

I'm not sure about that. Previously, WYRK had followed a predictable pattern where it topped the ratings in the summer, and WBLK topped them in the winter. This year, I didn't see a summer bounce. But you're right, this particular report is way outside the norm.

It almost makes you wonder who got a book.
There have been cases where station employees or relatives got diaries. That can skew the results. Is it possible that WYRK'S current slide means that some of their listeners have found Jesus over at 102.5.? More likely just a fluky book...

Kiss 98.5 plays a lot of the songs Star 102.5 used to play. It seems like they started playing a lot more stuff from the 2000's ever since Star went off

Radio companies have policies in place that provide stringent penalties for employees who participate in ratings distortion. You might ask, "Who's gonna know?" There are ways. Besides, people talk, especially in Buffalo. Word gets around. A station employee who receives and completes a bunch of diaries is penny wise and pound foolish. It could cost their job.

True, but there just might be a "friend of a friend." Really, it will take a few monthlies to see if this book is a new trend or just a fluke.
