Buffalo Need Second Hip-Hop station

Well, I was about to post one of those "get off my lawn" comments on this topic, but the subtlety of previous posters says it all.

To respectfully answer your query DJ D-Red, Buffalo does just fine with WBLK, Kiss and cross border Z-101. Jody and Mel in Cheektowaga are content listening to Zep, Skynyrd and Floyd on 97 Rock and Big & Rich and Brooks & Dunn on WYRK. Their kids are hard-wired to their iPods or Kiss, BLK or Z.

The aging demo in Buffalo (median age is probably around 38) isn't exactly demanding mo' non-stop-hip-hop on the radio. I would guess that another Country station or an Oldies station would do far better than hip-hop. Arguably, 97 Rock fills the Oldies void. Radio operators in Buffalo don't see a strong revenue stream doing hip-hop. Buffalo isn't Toronto and it surely isn't NYC.

I would think more along the lines of getting the kids to listen to one station, then grow up to like the other, but that may not work.

If the situation is too many "tweens" listening, and not enough 18plus crowd, the station fails.

Therefore, WBLK is fine on its own...(?)

This seems to be the game plan with Entercom's CHR Kiss and Hot AC Star. It works to some extent, but falls victim to the unpredictability of the available product which runs in cycles. Sometimes the two stations bump into each other in the 25-34 demo. Not easy navigating the water in that river. There are times when Star is as strong as Kiss in 18-34 Women, largely because of Star's strong 25-34 numbers.

Readers might be surprised at how "fine" WBLK is on its own. But here too, it seems WBLK falls victim to diary placement from book to book, sometimes very strong Persons 25-54, sometimes not so much.

bring the city alive?
the MAIN place MALL, the downtown mall
closes at 5pm!! a hip hop station, no way..

-sorry, not happening...
-no way, the suits, wont go for it
-misses the demo. . . all the wrong reasons,
a hip-hop station wont sign on........................................
...now, an all-dance channel,
hmmm, u may be onto some thing! ha ha

So where does WBLK 93.7's signal interfear with Flow 93.5 from Toronto somewhere in the Burlington/Hamilton area? I know you'll get 93.5 & 93.7 somewhere, with some static between Toronto & the St. Catherine's/Niagara area.
