Buffalo numbers, anyone?

We have the Rochester 12+ numbers courtesy of R&R, and no surprises there, with WBEE, WHAM and WDKX in that order making up your top 3 in the winter '06 book, Warm 101 softening a bit, WCMF inching upward and no one else showing surprising moves in either direction. But Buffalo remains publicly embargoed. I know it's a no-no to reveal the actual Buffalo numbers under those circumstances, but can anyone at least tell us; -What the top 3 Buffalo stations 12+ were? -Whether WHTT and 97 Rock are holding strong?-What direction Jack and The Lake are headed?-Whether anyone either enjoyed surprising gains or suffered a drastic drop?Inquiring minds outside the market want to know...

Why does the embargo continue??????????????????????????????????????????

Rochester Numbers

No surprises. A couple interesting things at the bottom of the barrel - Big Dog Country in Newark showed up - with a .5 - perhaps their best book ever? I believe they are usually a no show. While a fan of Air America, WROC-AM has a mere .8 ---(1) Need a local morning show - I am told AA does best on stations(usually indie owned), that actually try and compete with a local morning show.(2) Some promotions - can they make a trade out deal with City Newspaper - a regular ad in the liberal alt weekly might get them more well known with their liberal audience base.(3) My guess is their transmitter site needs some investment. When you enter the outer ring burbs, you start to lose the signal. It wasn't that bad a signal in the old 950/BBF days, was it?

As to Rochester and specifically WROC's poor performance as raised by Raymond Shaw..."(1) Need a local morning show - I am told AA does best on stations(usually indie owned), that actually try and compete with a local morning show."That might help some, since IIRC they were somewhat more competitive while they had Allan Harris doing a local morning show."(2) Some promotions - can they make a trade out deal with City Newspaper - a regular ad in the liberal alt weekly might get them more well known with their liberal audience base."I suspect their core target audience already knows they're there---just doesn't make it their primary choice. I'll admit to some self-interest on this, since people assume WXXI-AM would be the primary alternate choice for that core (although I think that's not the case---WCMF is the commercial station WXXI-AM listeners use as their first alternate choice)...but while the commercial reports won't say it, WXXI-AM just had what may have been its best winter book ever."3) My guess is their transmitter site needs some investment. When you enter the outer ring burbs, you start to lose the signal. It wasn't that bad a signal in the old 950/BBF days, was it?"950 AM's signal was always pretty bad outside the city and inner-ring Monroe County suburbs. It runs a tight figure 8 by day, an even tighter pattern shooting most of its power through the city and out into the lake by night. That's been the case since day one in 1947, and if anything the antenna and ground system is improved over what it was when they first built it. Back 30 or 40 years ago when there were fewer co-channel stations interfering and less background electrical noise coming from computers, TV sets and other electronic devices, it wasn't as hard to cut through the clutter and listen---and people did, because it was the only place to hear the hits between Syracuse and Buffalo. Once WAXC/1460 and then a parade of FMs arrived to compete, the days of 950's dominance of under-35 listeners was over. And the poor signal that had been a minor irritant before when it was the only hit music game in town, became a major problem once there were other choices.

A post on the "other board" has positions 12+ for the Winter book, but no numbers. I've not seen the poster on this board or on the old board. There may be some folks with new handles and some new folks altogether. Anyway, according to the post "over there," the 12+ positions are WYRK, WBLK, WBEN, WGRF, WJYE, WKSE, WHTT, WTSS, WEDGE, WGR-A, WBUF. The poster indicates the 12+ and 25-54 are markedly different and that WBEN barely made it in the top 10, 25-54 Persons. I probably should have copied and pasted, but I'm guessing the operators of this board may not approve.
