Buffalo Phase 2 Arbitrends

Certainly it's more fun to discuss a one hit wonder that peaked at #73 On Billboard's Hot 100 Charts, but it might be interesting to take a little detour from the burgeoning "Stiffs" thread to discuss the latest Phase 2 12+ Arbitrends (Dec-Jan-Feb.)

WBEN, by a Royal Crotch Hair takes first place away from WYRK. Still, Regent has three stations in the top five. WBLK and WJYE off a tick. 97 Rock off considerably, despite Buffalo Bills football. Could the absence of Tom Tiberi be taking a toll? Mix 104 had a nice gain, but trails AC stalwarts WJYE and Star, which went up a tick.

The Edge off nearly a share is something of a surprise, although not as big a surprise as WGR, even with Sabres hockey, going down.

The Lake level rises to its highest mark in a long while. WWWS 1400 AM notches a respectable 1.7 playing Old School R&B hits on a weak signal AM that barely covers the market. Missing however, are WLVL and WECK.

Sure, it's 12+, it's only a trend, but...

Once again today I found myself turning off WGR on the way home as a result of Mike Schopp. I liked him in Roch. and back in the WNSA days but on certain days I can't stand to listen to him on GR. He can come across as arrogant, defensive, judgmental, take your pick. Maybe GR wants him this way to stir things up but it comes as a turn off to me. On other days he can come across as funny and knowledgeable without being smug. Unfortunately it seems harder for me to find those days. Maybe it's the fact that the Sabres and Bills are both struggling. :-\

"Maybe it's the fact that the Sabres and Bills are both struggling."

It wouldn't be shocking to find out that WGR's audience went down the moment the Sabres went into a swoon following those injuries to key people...and an early end to the season (which unfortunately now seems likely) means that after a bump up in the last half of March as the Sabres try to squeak into the playoffs, things are going to get pretty dismal come the end of this month and through the rest of the spring leading up to Bills training camp--unless, of course, the miracle happens and the Sabres vault past Florida and the Rangers into 8th place. We'll know four games from now...

WBEN's strength isn't any surprise because the ongoing economic and political news is pulling people in...I'm sure WNED-AM and WBFO are also doing well for the same reason, just as both WHAM and WXXI-AM in Rochester are posting very healthy numbers in their market.
