I would have put Classic Alt on 103.3 and AAA on 97 Rock...and I wonder how a Blues format will do on 102.5 (maybe they should dig "F.R.E.D." out of storage and revive Rock 102's 80's format). Also suprised no one is doing Hip Hop.

And just how many listeners will have the capability to listen to this cornucopia of entertainment?

If you know anything about HD, you would know that the objective is to get stations up and running in HD so that when the (HD) radios are available idiots like you will be able to get the signal!!

Right now, HD radio in Dallas is exploding!!!

Some of the formats are similar to the main channel. I wonder how much song overlap there will be. It looks like some stations stayed close to their branding.

Well excuuuuuuuuse meeeee for offering a well-measured opinion.

Guess I'll just have to be the one happy idiot who (at least for the time being) uses terrestrial radio as it is and lets the rest of the beta-testers spend their hard-earned dollars on (over-priced) HD receivers (when and where they can find them.) Sorry, but this is one idiot who isn't buying into the hype. Everything in this business is "the biggest, the best, the hottest, the most listened-to, the up-and-coming..." blah, blah, blah. Yeah, like the Jack format.

Jack this! And gimme a friggin' break!

As to Dallas, why am I not surprised. What about NY, Chicagoland, Philly and LA? And just WTF is the definition of "exploding?" Are thousands of HD sets moving off the shelves each day?

Two years ago the vanguard and industry cheerleaders were telling anybody who'd listen that XM and/or Sirius were exploding. As it looks today, they appear to be imploding.

HD? What does it tell you when some industry CEO's say (paraphrasing here), "I've heard it but can't much tell the difference between what we have on FM today, but I hope it helps get people listening to radio again."

HD was an industry response to satellite's purported assault on terrestrial radio. As we're seeing, that assault isn't the overwhelming victory it was supposed to be.

I'll wait for the time being. As other posters have offered, HD appears to resemble FM Quad or AM stereo more than anything else at this point. Meanwhile CD, iPod, mp3 and wifi are here and seem to be satisfying plenty of customers.

Lastly, I'm not saying you're wrong, I'm saying I'm content to wait and be PROVEN wrong.

I understand the marketing concept, as I am sure the original questioner does as well. But considering that radio listening in general is not exactly on the increase, one has to ask if HD radio is going to be just another AM stereo. I am sure it will be more successful than that, but I personally don't think it will be much more successful. Listeners are looking for alternatives to commercial radio, not more choices of it. I see a lot more XM and Sirius customers than ever before, listening specifically to avoid commercials and get more choices. I also see plenty of iPods and other "solutions" for in car listening.

HD Radio signals will be free, but the equipment won't be. And will it be worth it to listeners to pay several hundred bucks just to receive (eventually) more commercial radio signals?

I think not.

I don't think the IBOC standard (especially the AM version of it) is all that anyway.

In Canada, there was also DAB (Digital Audio Broadcasting) and the same hype...but it died awful quick.

Canada's version of "improved audio" is moving as many AM signals to FM as possible. That and the excitement generated by XM and Sirius being available there. Again, there is no great excitement for HDRadio from the likes of corporate radio providers.

HD as in Highly Doubtful.

Just try to buy a DAB audio receiver around Canada's Niagara region. You can't even find them on-line.

Seems kind of like the problem with HD receivers in the US.

One more, though not part of the HD Alliance, is WDCX, which is currenly offering AC Christian on its HD-2 channel.
