Buh Bye Howard

Howard done this week?? When he's gone, people are actually going to see what a weak station Extreme really is. The no talent programming and air staff are gonna really shine now.. Better practice your customer service lines such as "paper or plastic" or "would you like fries with that."

I'm not a Stern fan either, but Howard carried many stations ratings and revenue wise and Extreme will be one of the casualites of his departure.. Pahrump Valley High School Sports on the station within a year? I can't wait to watch the dust fall on this impending implosion.

Why so much animosity towards Extreme? I think the station has it's flaws, but I can pick them out with most of them. You might be right about Howard carrying the station, but their numbers are strong right now, even outside of Stern. On top of that they're the Atlernative Station of the Year according to R&R. Not that I want to sit here and defend them to the bitter end, but I don't get why you're so hard on them...Unless you work for another station, in which case I fully understand.

To answer your questions Jay, I do not work for another radio station in Las Vegas. I am merely a fan of radio and a fan of the city and enjoy living here. Animosity? Extreme may be R&R's station of the year, but it still doesn't make them good. Awards are a joke anyway. Lets put it this way, listening to jocks who sound like someone put a rubber band around their nuts and dropped stupid pills in their soda doesn't make for entertaining radio in my humble opinion. The "hit my head with a hammer cause I hate you" music gets old. Maybe I can sum it up like this: Extreme is merely another corporate cloned radio station that really is nothing "extreme" at all. I guess I expect more from the "station of the year" than the bs thats on the air now. Go Area 108.

Agreeing with Howard....

(...For the first time in my career, by the way.)

Let me see if I have this straight....

Infinity put this slime-lord on the air coast-to coast, forsaking an entire generation of young listeners with conscientious parents, in exchange for "the millions [he] made for them", and then when he cashes out with Sirius, these "slime-bags" buy ads in Advertising Age to crap all over him?

Is that right?

So....will someone tell me again why any talented, accomplished, self-respecting...(wait, forget that), professional, on-air broadcaster would ever work for Infinity?

It will be interesting to hear x 107.5 next week during the morning....I wonder if there is going to be other changes made on the dial next week.....

I don't know JD, why would someone work for Infinity......you are a Good person to answer that since you did twice.

A superb point.

In both occasions, I was attempting to move my career forward....(thinking that it would actually be possible.) The first time, hiring Alan Stock over me was the right thing for them to do. He was a better candidate. However, the second go-round was just a foolish festival of incompetence-driven goalpost moving.

In an attempt to unravel the Gordian's Knot of tortured logic used to justify that conduct, Jack Landreth, one of Infinity's up and coming young managers said something that now appears to be corporate policy as far as On-Air Employees are concerned: "Talent, and Ratings don't matter."

Evidently, in Howard's case, not even millions upon millions in company earnings is enough to keep them from publicly trashing an employee's reputation. (Scorched earth?....It even looks like pernicious anger at a Radio Personality beating them at their own game, does it not?)

So....if Talent, Ratings, and Earnings don't matter, what does?

Until that question is answered....until there's a clear plan, clearly stated, for an On-Air Broadcaster to succeed long-term as an employee at Infinity, (and yes, based on my own experience), I suggest that talented professionals compete with them, rather than work for them. I for one, can hardly wait....

how many people have satellite radio.. 5 million?

I don't think it is going to last --as wireless net takes over with two way voice and video

Many folks also didn't think that cable TV would last either, and look at it now...

8 million. I would tend to agree, but even if satradio dies, there will be new threats. Whether those materialize or not, no one knows. As to the cable TV reference, there were a lot of people that thought thought AM Stereo would be huge.

Personally, I'd like to see the KSFN format on Xtreme. I realize it won't happen, but I do think having 18 minutes of inventory is better than having 8.
