Buh-bye to 97-Rock in Toronto

IF 97-Rock had any Toronto listeners left, they'll be gone soon. From Tom Taylor:

Canada’s CRTC regulator grants MZ Media permission to add an FM
transmitter at 96.7 with up to 82 watts of ERP (effective radiated power). ZM
Media pleaded that the downtown signal problems have cost it revenue and that
without the extra signal, its viability is in question.

Looks like “Zoomer Radio” CFZM (740) will be serving the public in TO instead.

As you noted, the key word is "IF." It's hard to imagine anybody in Toronto listening to 96.9 considering the availability of Q107, CFNY, 97.7 and other local FM stations. 97 Rock will someday be Zoomer Radio to thousands of baby boomers in Buffalo.

The GTA (at least the western half), has always had a station on 96.7. 96.7 is branded as Chym FM and serves the tri-cities of Kitchener-Waterloo-Guelph...Chym FM used to have listenable reception anywhere west of the 400....Would make perfect sense to add a transmitter to boost CHYM's signal to cover the entire GTA....
