Building a audience for a upstart online station

Well I made the plunge and launched a online station. I have signed Mitch Craig as our main v/o guy I'm still working on scrips to send him but hope to have the fully produced product on the air soon. Right now it is just automated music for the time being. Any tips you all can give on how to build a audience (outside of social media/and web boards) would help out a lot this station is really only focused on one city or state Atlanta/Georgia, thanks!

In a major city like Atlanta, Ga you should have no trouble building an audience if your Top 40/Rap or maybe modern pop Cuntry. If your Progressive Rock, Album Rock you have your work cut out for you. Try club houses if you live in an apartment complex that has a club house or has meetings maybe you can get permission to put up a bulletin or give out flyers to advertise your station. Plus those little papers that allow classified ads could help. Many don't know about Internet Radio. Another way is when you go to your cellphone carriers store to pay your bill, mention your station can be received on an android phone and mention XilliaLiveLite or TuneIn Radio if your station is listed there. It helps get the word out. Tell friends and you'll have to do a lot of promoting your own station.

Album Rock stations: Doctors, professors, lawyers, and the elite listen. Go to audiophile Stereo stores you know the places that sell Dennon, Carver, Luxman, Onkyo, and other high end home theater equipment. When your looking at systems mention your Radio station. You may even want to try and get a part time job at an electronics store and look at the people. You can spot a Rocker a mile away. But for other genres you'll have to guess. If you see someone wearing a Pink Floyd shirt for an example you know they love this type of music. Expose your station to the masses.

Have an old car, van? Get it painted with your stations logo and website under the logo or have a plate made. Wear a shirt yourself everywhere you go the public needs to know about your station.

Other than that I don't have any other ideas.

Good Luck.

Bumper stickers.

By the way, I noticed that an "O" was omitted in the first sentence of the above post...

No, that moniker is right, it's a new brand image concept for a more tightly segmented country format, developed in response, and as a direct competitor to, the Cumulus' NASH brand! The new brand image moniker is the propitiatory intellectual property of Cox Radio.

For my country station in Tallahassee, Fla., I had business cards printed at VistaPrint. It is also possible to get T-shirts, caps, mugs, etc. printed with your logo with them.

Word of mouth has been the best method. The local paper has run a couple of stories about us.

You might want to read through the Atlanta board here to see what folks are wanting. Several have
mentioned a lack of oldies. Finding the format holes will definitely help.

I have been streaming for nearly 12 years. It has been a slow process since no one understood streaming much - myself included, in those early days.

We are at a couple thousand listeners per month on average. Classic country being the niche that it is, I'm okay with where we are at right now.

Best wishes, Jason!

Till this day, I've been doing internet radio for 7 years. I tried out a few brands and tweaks until one brand finally "sold" in my region. Now that I am a resident in two clubs broadcasting live from there, I get more exposure, but that took a lot of hard work and constant networking with the DJ's and staff. I still do flyers, bumper stickers, shirts, and promo cd's. People love to get free stuff. Good luck with your stream, hope it brings you success and some extra cash.

I use streamfinder.com pay 10.00 a month and it puts me at the top of each genera, just remember its a struggle for awhile but don't give up my powerradioonline has been on the air 5 years and it seems this is goning to be the best yet.
