Building News Talk

What do you think is the best way to build a conservative news talk station? Include promos, spots, hosts, etc. Be thorough here folks. I'd like to see if a good one can be build using syndicated talent.

Strong morning news show, or issues talk with frequent news/weather/traffic updates. The best shows you can swing the rest of the day. Be top of mind for severe weather and breaking news (24 hour news operation with news top and bottom of the hour. Can you do it with syndicated hosts? Sure you can, its being done all over. If the major shows are unavailable..then you're in trouble.
______________

It helps too if the syndicated shows are LIVE!
______________

Okay, here's the weekday lineup for my dream news/talk station.

1:00 - 5:00 AM
Coast to Coast AM
5:00 - 9:00 AM
(Insert local host here) In the Morning
- The first local show would be based on in-depth coverage of local news.
9:00 AM - Noon
The (insert local host here) Show
- This show would be much lighter, focused more on local events and entertainment than news.
Noon - 3:00 PM
Rush Limbaugh
3:00 - 6:00 PM
Sean Hannity
6:00 - 7:00 PM
The Early Evening News
- A solid hour of comprehensive coverage of all the day's news with a local angle. Would include a stock market report, sports, weather... everything.
7:00 - 10:00 PM
(Insert local host here) At Night
- Think of a local version of Glenn Beck.
10:00 PM - 1:00 AM
The Phil Hendrie Show

Local news and weather would be broadcast LIVE 24/7/365, and would fill the entire six minutes (minus commercials) from the top of the hour to the beginnings of programs. No network newscast... all local personalities. All news would have a local angle. For example, local area residents would be worried about college students who had taken a trip to London at the time of the Underground bombing... that would be the focus of the story. All weather would be done locally, possibly in conjunction with a local TV station, but would be broadcast LIVE, not pre-recorded like most stations do these days.

That's my perfect News/Talker.
______________

If it's news of the day issues, I agree. Some other shows, like Clark Howard and Dr. Laura, are a little more evergreen as far as timeliness.
______________

the best way to build a news/talker is to use the cume in your talk shows to aggressively promote a compelling morning show. then execute flawlessly every hour of every morning to retain the people who sample.
