Bulldog 103.7 wxkt

I wonder if this means 100.1 the Bulldog will no longer air Georgia Bulldogs men's basketball games. I'll miss the music at 103.7, but if done right, it might work.

Check out www.wxkt.com . Looks like 103.7 will be News, Talk & Georgia Bulldogs. Have they started using the WNGC tower yet?

As I hear it, they are now broadcasting from WNGC's tower, and may flip as early as this weekend.

103.7 never really had a good signal on campus in Athens and it looks like they've moved further away and are now focusing on Gainesville and Lake Lanier.

- Why didn't 103.7 try to move closer to Athens instead of up into the North Georgia mountains?

- Based on the new coverage map, I would think that WGAU would be unaffected by this new station and could keep on with the same lineup, unless a simulcast is planned for Athens coverage of 103.7's new programing.

- Was this a stand alone move of 103.7 or was it part of a series of moves. If it was part of a series, what was the main station benefiting?

Are any of the North-East Georgia commercial FM's broadcasting in HD?

100.1 was moved from Washington (ex WLOV-FM) to Watkinsville 103.7 was moved from Royston to Arcade to Maysville. 106.1 was moved from Toccoa to Arcade to backfill.

No site change on it yet, but I'm sure some consulting engineer for Cox has figured out whether it could be moved into the Atlanta area. Both 106.1 and 106.7 are pre-1962 allotments, so the spacing rules are a lot looser. I think there was an unsuccesful attempt to move it to Sugar Hill (or some suburb i Gwinnett) about 5 years ago. I think 106.1 from Alexander City (WSTH) is also pre-1962.

I will miss the music too, but music could return soon. News and Talk on FM around here doesn't last long and the best talkers in Gainesville are on WDUN. Also multi-path interference is a factor for FM in Northeast GA. It should be interesting to see how long this lasts without Rush and Hannity. I was listening earlier and heard Clark Howard, along with ads for Bortz and Savage. This is the strongest line-up possible. Bortz is their biggest name and Bortz listeners may change from 750 to 103.7. This will compete with WSB, but I don't expect it to be a problem, since the signal is weak in parts of Hall County. It appears they will lean more towards sports and WSB programing not heard on WDUN. Gainesville and North Georgia have little variety in local radio. A second talker, competing against one oldies and five country. The 103.7 signal isn't as strong as I thought it would be. It's weak in parts of Hall County, near the metro and weak around parts of the lake area. The original plan was to serve both Gainesville and Athens, by moving the signal from northeast of Athens to the same distance to the northwest of Athens, while keeping the same signal strength over most of Athens. This would increase the potential number of potential listeners significantly. However this didn't happen. I understand a problem buying the land led to changes in the move a few years ago and finally Cox moved 103.7 away from Athens to Maysville. I do remember 106.1 WNGC trying to move to Lawrenceville in the late 1990's and finally Sugar Hill in early 2000's.

I remember all the proposed moves for WNGC 106.1. Are y'all trying to say that the move to the west of 103.7 is to allow for the eventual move of 106.1 or is 103.7 just temporary parked on it's current transmitter and setting up for another move to cover more of the Metro?

How is 103.7's signal weak in Hall County, when they are broadcasting from WNGC's tower, which is on the edge of Lula on the Banks/Hall County Line, at 25,000 watts? It comes in around Athens decent.

103.7 WXKT is @ 4,100 watts from 250 meters up the WNGC tower. Its a little weaker in Athens than when it broadcasted with 25,000 watts from just north of Ila, Ga. But that location was only 100 meters high. I was in 5 points at the traffic light on Milledge Ave. and lost the signal while waiting for the light to change. Thats the only place I noticed much difference in the signal while I was driving around. I suspect East Athens will be worse.

It's good, but weak on a portable radio in Flowery Branch (in and out) and weak in Buford (part of Buford is in Gwinnett and part is in Hall). It almost sounds as if it never moved on Highway 13 (Gainesville Highway) at Frienship in Hall County. It's almost non-existant in Forsyth. I was in Oakwood, near Gainesville College (Gainesville suburb) Saturday, but didn't listen. If I remember, I'll check the next time I'm there. Hall is a long county. It's as long as the lake. WXKT is on the far northeastern edge. Gainesville is in the middle. Buford/Rest Haven is on the other far edge. The strength of the signal is disappointing.

I picked it up ok (a little bit of spit) in Duluth. I would imagine reception would be better on the other side of Peachtree Ridge. I tweaked the dial and the spit seemed to be coming from an out of town, on-frequency station, not bleed from Kiss or V-103.

I do agree with the other thread that they should turn off the stereo when not doing PBP. That might clean up the signal some.

They need to do something about the processing of Jamie DuPree's mike. He sounded positively castrato on FM.

Yes WNGC did try to move their tower to Sugar, Hill back in 2001 but scrapped it,I remember when 106.1 first went country back in '96 they were hard to pick up outside of Gwineet until they merged with WNGC.
