Bulletin: KSTN/1420 Shutting Down

Regarding the future of KSTN am.....From the Notification of Suspension Operations/Request for Silent STA which Robert LaRue filed with the FCC, here is the statement regarding the request:

KSTN HAS BEEN OPERATING AT A LOSS FOR A SUBSTANTIAL PERIOD OF TIME AND LICENSEE IS EXPLORING THE POSSIBILITY OF CONTINUING OPERATION OF THE STATION ON A BROKERED TIME BASIS IN ORDER TO REDUCE OPERATING COSTS.

I am--or rather was-- a dj at KSTN up until yesterday, and while I cant say what the actual reasons were, I can say with relative certainty that the LaRue's did not sell the station...

I heard the reason, and I think it's the absolute wrong reason ... but what can you do?

Oddly enough, I'm going to miss the early Sunday morning gospel programming on KSTN. To me, it was one of the most amazing throw-backs to radio in the 1950s and 1960s: sloppy at times, with long gaps of silence and occasional coughing into the microphone, but wonderful music and energy.

I also think this means that Mancow's biggest affiliate is no more...
Yes i have heard the reason as well, and i agree.
I will always remember Rev. Crosby shuffling in at 5 am when i would work the overnights.

I am really going to miss working there, not just because it's my 1st stop on radio, but because it was what radio SHOULD be.....FUN!!

I remember those overnight shifts, I did a few of them myself.... 91-93

where did you find that?

To celebrate the memory of KSTN/1420, which went to that great graveyard frequency in the sky one year ago today, the Classic KSTN digital stream has been jump-started, at least for the weekend.

Tune in online, using the TuneIn Radio app on your iPhone/Droid, or at RadioTime.com.
