As reported on both channels 4 & 5 at 6 tonight, WRKO acting in the place of the soon to be released Mafia Don Angulo is making Howie Carr an offer he can't refuse to stay at WRKO.

If there is such a deal which I doubt it probably comes with the iron clad provision that Tom Finneran be taken off the air immediately.

Wouldn't doubt that Carr would want to go AM Drive. He has been wanting that for years. But as the proverb goes, ' be careful what you pray for you may get it."

Howie Carr has become an aging, past his prime right wing talker. Nothing new or fresh to attract an audience long term to TTK Morning Drive and nothing to compare to the fast and furious Imus mixture which was sometimes good and sometimes bad.

In addition, Carr does not have the broad range Washington contacts who are non-partisans. How often can one hear that certifiable Tom Tancrado and his ilk. It will become the same old tired and predictable right wing diatribe.

If Peter Smyth cannot see the long term detriment to FM Talker with the addtion of Howie Carr he is not the executive I think he is. While he does not have the day to day operation of WTKK as his responsibilty he still has the bottom line of the whole Greater Media conglomerate.

Do we really want a "Death Pool" on Morning Drive and a "Police Blotter Friday on 96.9. And how often can Carr continue to plug his minor league tome about Bulger.

Enough already ! Let hope 96.9 doesn't go from Graham Crackers in the morning to a six pack and a boiled potato kind of talk radio that Carr brings.

Carr is cheap and class less and WTKK can do better than that....I hope!
 
I do not think that WTKK would announce that Carr is coming, unless there was an iron-clad contract. Signed, sealed and delivered. WRKO can try all they want to keep Howie. He is gone.
As for some of his Schtick...pehaps you jump to the gun...it may never appear on TKK... Also, though they say he will solo..I am sure there will be some kind of sidekick , newsperson, or producer..that will and can help in keep Howie in check. I wish them and Howie luck..and nothing but Cancer to WRKO. It is now a dead station.
 
If he's so cheap and classless, how come the stations are fighting over him? I don't think Howie would consider moving his show if he thought he would be censored.
 
Howie Carr appeals to the lowest common
denominator.

I thought WTKK was better than that.

Perhaps, just like coming to Casablanca for the waters, I was mistaken... ;)

Sadly, I predicted here several weeks ago that TKK would go after Carr. Again, it show the derth of local talent or better still the lack of imagination by the suits at these stations.

Well, not everyone can be a fountain of endless vitality like Imus. Bwahahahah. The old stone-faced, coked-up buzzard extorts money from 'his' children's camp in New Mexico to pad his palace there. Imus 'Fast & furious?' Boy, do you need a clue.

He has high ratings and great billing. You don't like him or his politics but face it: if he stank,
he wouldn't be getting this big deal. He'd be doing once a week on a 1,000 watter somewhere.

Don't like Carr because he stabbed Jerry Williams in the back. Howie would still be an ink stained wretch at the Herald if it were not for Jerry and... well, that's for another discussion. It wasn't "father time" that pushed Jerry off of WRKO it was Howie.
Jerry's daughters will go so far as to say that Carr's actions on and off the air and in his newspaper caused their father's rapid decline in health and death. I think there is some truth in that whether Carr is number one in his time slot or not.

Someday, it will probably happen to Howie. Suggest he Google an old Playhouse 90 play with Alec Guiness entitled,The Terrible Scheme of Jebble Deeks
