Bullfighting in Atlanta?

Saw a billboard on I-75 Southbound around Calhoun GA. with a yellow background and red letters, it said:
"Bullfighting Coming Soon to Atlanta"

Could this be in reference to the much rumored flip of WLTM 94.9 Lite-FM to Country? (The Bull) Just wondering.

Sounds like a bit of a stretch. Curious though...

Who owns the billboard?

I ask only becuase...

If it was Clear Channel...

Hmmmmmmm.

Hmm...Perezhilton.com had something today about the top ten albums, not sure if it was Billboard or what. Country titles were on it more than usual and no hip hop like usual. Is there a general trend favoring country music nowadays?

If you Google that Clear Channel employees name you'll find an Access Atlanta story from this past January talking about HD... and that story mentions that he's the VP of Programming at Clear Channel Atlanta. If I was a betting man, I'd definitely bet that 94.9 is flipping Country as soon as Christmas is over.

According to Whois, the "bullatlanta" website was also created the day that 96rock flipped... so Country on 94.9 seems to be part of the grand plan.

It seems that imploding 96 Rock has caused a domino effect, both in house and outside the "Building of death" as Kimmer used to call Clear channel Atlanta. Sort of surprised that KImmer lasted as long as he did zinging his employer like that.

Anyways I would expect more movement after Christmas, especially if Lite flips to The Bull after Christmas, especially with new ownership of Eagle/Kicks who will react to the flip.

My heart goes out to Randy & Spiff who will be out of a job but especially to Steve Goss who has been working at Peach/Lite for decades. I think he might have one of the longest tenures in Atlanta radio, not counting Larry Munson.

Randy and Spiff and Steve Goss are great talents who could do any format. Country would certainly be no stretch for them. It just seems like Clear Channel is on a suicide mission. Flipping Peach/Lite to Country? That seems like a really dumb move. Kimmer had it right - it really is the building of death. Hope the Lite people have good fat contracts to be paid out. If the Bull is more than just bull then that will be great news for B and The Fish - they'll be the only AC's left in town.

Agreed that flipping Lite to Country is a really stupid idea. Doesn't Lite do respectable in the ratings vs 98.5? I think they're always right there with them, if not ahead. I really don't see where Atlanta needs 3 country stations.

Is Cox secretly programming Clear Channel Atlanta? Blowing up 96Rock primnarily benefits the River. They were already kicking their butts but one remaining listeners they had for the playlist can easily migrate to the River. Now abandoning Lite which to me makes even less sense than 96 Rock clearly benefits 98.5

The Fish is not AC - it's Christian Contemporary. Fish doesn't play Elton John, Billy Joel, Sheryl Crow, or Kelly Clarkson (except during their all-Christmas thing). If Lite flips, B98.5's 300 song jukebox will be the only game in town.

Maybe classic hits. (Steve Goss is the announcement voice of Sunny XM 24). Randy and Spiff have a long stigma of being oldies DJ's. I suspect they will be gone soon flip or no flip.

I suspect if 94.9 goes, it could flip to country. But it might flip to rythmic AC. Don't predict Clear Channel.

Take away the words and the fact that Fish,Lite and B go after the same age/gender demos so if one goes the other two will gain audience. The Fish is Christian AC while Lite and B are mainstream AC but all 3 are some form of AC.

Rhythmic would seem the logical choice when (not if) Lite flips. After all, CC is dying to find a home for Whoopi in the morning in Atlanta, and Project 9-6-1 ain't it.

Maybe Classic Country on 640? They've destroyed WGST over the past two years, why not just finish 'er off? That would mean that no CC Atlanta station would have the same format it had in the Summer of 2004.

Those people are taking over!

Oh, just great! Another radio station targeting Caucasians in Atlanta.

If we don't speak up soon, those people will soon be taking over!!!!!

Nice try, but that trick will never work for you.

5 of the top 10 are hip hop, only one redneck album in the top 10.

I'm sure someone was just mistaken, yeah that's it. ::)

Same as those who try to sell radio time on this format as if their listeners have half the money as those who listen to hip hop, rock, chr or ac. Just tell us the truth, that your station is #1 25-54 with people who have an Aunt Mom and Uncle Dad. ;D (right back at cha)

BTW, hi to the left that likes to hold people down for political benefit by not allowing them to learn the langauge here and be all they can be. Hi to those who make money off this plan too.

Leave it to "itburnswhenipee" to turn a dicussion about a soft rock station flipping to country into a political statement about the lack of latin radio in Atlanta. Nice!

what does that mean for 'El Que' ? ;D

itburnswhenipee was being sarcastic. Don't take things too seriously folks. Sheesh!

I could see Randy and Spiff doing country but not Steve Goss. I am sure he'd do his best to pull it off, but I hear his voice in my head and it is very soothing, not the type of talent desired for a Country station.

How about this for an opening act for a possible Bullm bringing Moby back to major market radio either that or pulling a coup and stealing Rhubarb away from ABC/Cumulus.
