Burlington changes

I sit here pondering the following. The new oldies format on 92.1 will grab SOME of the former KOOL listeners who are disenchanted with that station and it's "Classic Hits". It won't do huge damage as the signal has it's limitations. It will chip away a bit. I gather CC is trying to go after more of the Southern tier (Addison, Essex counties) as well. Word is out on the street in Rutland they just hired a salesman from the Rutland area to rep 92.1 in Addison/Rutland/Essex counties. The format will surely play better there than the old Kiss. When will KOOL start transitioning it's moniker to something more resembling the new format? KOOL just doesn't fit when you hear Yes, Stones, Tom Petty, etc. I am in agreement with others on this board that I just don't get what they are thinking at Hall. They just put KOOL into competition with The Wizard. They share 70% of the same music. Do they know something I don't? All I can see is them cannibalizing each other and KOOL taking a big ratings hit. They aren't going to fool their old listeners by not changing the name of the station...especially when they can't hear any Motown, 3 Dog Nite, Rascals, etc anymore. The Wizard is in trouble...KOOL will soon be in trouble and WOKO has a new competitior out there who will nip at their feet constantly. Sounds like it's finally time for the Hall group to have to do some work and protect themselves. Have they had it too easy for too long and not be able to get as aggressive as need be? Should be interesting.

Class dismissed.

I haven’t listed enough to pick up on a 70% cannibalization rate at Hall, but let’s say that’s the case. Wouldn’t the internal strife generated by such a redundancy of programming in the sales department warrant a definitive course of action for both signals? There is always too much as steak to just stand pat.

It would seem that any move busted would beat no move at all. If you had to give Kool and WIZN a quick makeover what would you do? Is it as easy as defining the identity of each signal and following through with programming that matches?

I think Ray D. Oh said it best in and earlier post, the Burlington Rant, The GM at Hall treats IZN and the BUZZ as second class citizens. He cant’ relate with them on any level and in some ways that’s why it made sense that IZN was going to flip to Soft AC
