What will 2007 bring to radio in Burlington? My predictions:
-Clear Channel will be sold and you'll see the new owners sahke up programming and sales operations dramatically. Corm/Coach out on Champ and the station re-aligned to a more mainstream rock. Star will be re-vamped and more local talent added. KISS will change formats completely to something more adult oriented. (I wouldn't rule out smooth jazz again or mainstream MOR) The Zone will continue but with a de-emphasis on sports and more emphasis on some local talk programming and probably a news department to handle things for the whole cluster.
-Hall will continue to run WOKO as is. Safe but oh so boring. KOOL 105 will continue to tweak their format and become even more puzzling than they are now. Are we classic hits or oldies? Who knows? WIZN will get less rocking because Hall knows nothing about rock radio. They'll leave the Buzz alone because they are afraid of it and have no idea. Hall will continue to wonder why they ever paid so much for those two stations.
-Northeast Broadcasting will do nothing major. They will continue to have decent signals with some good potential but not realize that potential because of the management structure. MP103 will stay the course but they won't grow. The Point will be the same and stay at it's low shares and revenues. 93.7 will continue to be a non-entity with a satellite format and all the AM's will fall by the wayside. What are they doing with all those AM's anyway? Sad sad sad.
-Sison ratings on WXXX will recover a bit as Kiss leaves the air. WVMT will continue to try and be a player---as it should be with that signal---but fail. They still won't "get it" and put in a local news department. The old rule of thumb will prevail in the building. Run it as cheaply as possible and let's not rock the boat. They need a shot in the arm when it comes to programming but BH isn't going anywhere and apparently PG isn't ready to throw him out.
Thank you and good night.
