bush to address nation monday night in prime-time

President Bush will address the nation from the oval office, Monday May 15th about immigration. The speech will happen at 8 PM EDT, 7 PM CDT, 6 PM MDT, and 5 PM PDT. It is likely that all the major broadcast network stations including PBS and cable channels like CNN, FNC, MSNBC, C-SPAN and others will air the speech live. I think that all the prime-time schedule and shows on the broadcast networks in the ET/CT zones will be aired in their entireties after the speech ends, maybe starting at 8:30 PM ET/7:30 PM CT there abouts. Thoughts on this?

Have you ever noticed he picks some of the most busiest nights in sweeps to pull this crap? Usually it pre-empts American Idol or CSI. I'm guessing they are trying to trick people into listening to him. I'm sure FOX will air it, which will screw up Prison Break/24. You would think all the last minute programming changes they have had to make because of unimportant speeches would make them realize they could just show it on FNC.

This practice turns the speech into an "event," as the White House people see it, interrupting as it does popular programs so the president can drone on about nothing new OR important. The executive hope is that the public will conclude since the speech wouldn't wait until later, it MUST be of some urgency--and it's not. More of the same drivel trying to convince the public that the government is in control and everything is going to be alright come tomorrow. White House "advisors" who themselves desperately need advising should listen to the sound of televisions everywhere being turned off-not changing chnnels since every outlet but the premium movie channels will be carrying Bush's latest words of comfort and wisdom. But wait, THEY advise the president so THEY know best. Sure............

Right now, the TV listings are showing NBC and Fox running Bush. CBS staying with The King of Queens and ABC staying with Oprah Winfrey's Legends Ball. Apparently Deal of No Deal on NBC and Prison Break on Fox and the rest of the Monday schedules will be delayed.CBS and ABC may still cave in. If not, it will be interesting to see if Oprah kicks Dubya's butt in the overnights.Fox, of course, is "fair and balanced" and Tony Snow's former employer. Apparently Tony was not sharp enough to realize a speech during a sweeps period was dumb - or did not have the clout to talk Bush out of it. GE (which owns NBC) is a major defense contractor; they can't afford to p___ off the administration.

Interesting comment on Tony Snow--another of Bush's whiz kids in the inner circle who knows best. That he has no clout is a given, since the press secretary only does and says what he's instructed to do and say by other advisors who outrank him. You're right, also, that this, another useless speech, occurs during sweeps. When things get balled up--the war, oil, and now NSA and phone records--Congressional committes hold dog and pony show "hearings" and Bush gives a speech--all attempting to capture as much TV time as possible. Hearings are relegated to the news hour and Bush holds forth io prime time with his spiel.

I hread Prison Break is the season fanile on FOX this coming monday nite. It's about time for all the shows to hit the season fanile this week on all the next work and Monday on NBC is Deal or No Deal will be on for 2 hours. I guess alot of monday nite fans wont be happy that much for President Bush to do his talking. I guess i wont see the #1 show of 24 monday night either.

Do we know via the wires or the network sites that all 4 major TV networks, ABC, CBS, NBC, and FOX is airing the speech live and will air the whole prime-time schedule after the speech and will PBS also air it?

On-line and on-screen schedules show PBS going with Antiques Roadshow.NBC's Deal or No Deal will either be truncated or joined in progress, with The Apprentice starting at 10 and no delay in local news.Fox's schedule will be pushed back with Prison Break starting after the speech (about 8:20).I presume CNN, Fox and MSNBC will cut away from Zahn, O'Reilly and Obermann (respectively) for the speech. C-Span will also carry it.TNT will be showing the NBA Detroit Pistons and Cleveland Cavaliers basketball game.ESPN will have the Boston Red Sox at Baltimore Orioles game.

Hey All,According to TVNewser only FOX and NBC have officially said they will break away for those 20 to 25 minutes. CBS and ABC haven't said as of yet...and if they are smart and want to pull one over on NBC and FOX, they should go with programming as usual and let CNN/FOX/NBC take care of the coverage.Source: http://www.mediabistro.com/tvnewser/fnc/fox_to_air_bushs_speech_in_primetime_36824.aspSource: http://www.mediabistro.com/tvnewser/politics/update_nbc_to_carry_bushs_address_36805.aspRock on,Tybois UpholdEditor/News DirectorSVRTV-Winchester, VAwww.svrtv.net

Our ABC station in Philadelphia, WPVI-TV 6 said that they will air the speech tomorrow night at 8 PM EDT. I don't know if KYW-TV CBS 3 is going to air it or not. WCAU-TV 10 and WTXF-TV 29 will air the speech also tomorrow night.

FOX will delay the schedule by however long the President rambles. Right now, they're estimating Prison Break and 24 will each start 20 minutes late and end 20 minutes late. Our 9pm news will only run 40 minutes, instead of an hour, at this point.

Wow...ABC bumps Queen Okrah. :DBut getting back to the technical intricacies at hand...Since reports have NBC running a truncated "Deal"8:25-10pm ET, what will they do on their Mountainzone and left coast feeds?

I think that the whole 2 hours of the show will air in the MDT/PDT zones at 7 PM and 8 PM .  The Oprah special will air Next Monday on ABC

Here in Philly, WTXF-TV 29 will air their newscast for a full hour at 10:20 PM EDT and air Geraldo at large at 11:20 PM EDT, Seinfeld at 11:50 PM, Malcom in the Middle at 12:20 AM and join King of the hill in progress at 12:50 AM EDT. BTW it will not shock me if CBS skips the address tonight.

TV Networks Cave In

The guy has a 29% approval rating. Everybody knows what he's going to say. It's sweeps week and the last thing TV stations want is to drive viewers away to cable. Wonder what "the decision maker" did to twist their arm?
