Just curious: I have relatives in Long Island, and your former news/talk station, WLIE, has been running Business Talk. With the success of CNBC and another business network from FOX coming up -- what do you think of the Business Radio format on WLIE (we have one in Connecticut too)? DO you think it will succeed or fail? What can WLIE do to appear in the Arbitrons?

I like the format, but I'd just like to know your honest opinions.

I think they should play hymns on Saturday afternoons. Seems to be the winning formula for WGSM... get's everyone psyched up for church on Sunday.

I'm not a big believer in business talk formats. Even Bloomberg with its 50,000 watt signal is not out for ratings.

I think they should drop the whole thing and start over.

You have to do what makes money. By signing on with the Business Talk Radio Network, they have a steady stream of shows without the huge overhead. The previous talk format was the right idea, just too expensive. I have my own ideas why it failed, but I'm not the radio geek you guys are. And WLIE now has their own nationally syndicated show, "Business Talk This Morning." Dave and Amanda make the subject matter interesting to listen to.

My understanding is that Stuart Henry, who took a real bath with WLIE's local talk format, does very well with BTR. In a case like this, ratings don't really matter, since its basically paid programming. A real shame as I loved the local talk format and the hosts.

What ever happened to Gomez, Tyll, Siegel? We know David and Amanda are doing BTR in the AM, plus an hour of local business. Tracy Burgess is geting her national exposure on Imus in the Morning. Where are the rest?

Yes, Mike does the morning drive on KTTH, Seattle's 24/7 pro-Bush infomercial. As I recall, Mike was doing that show in the AM and WLIE in the PM. Now there's a man who was able to read the writing on the wall...
