"Businessweek: HD Radio Still Taking the Rap"

"Unfortunately, it may just be too little too late for the radio industry, as such well-established diversions as Apple's (AAPL) iPod (and soon the iPhone), satellite radio, and the Internet continue to lure people away from the dial. Those hoping to be early adopters have become early critics, with bloggers and gadget reviewers skewering everything from the sound quality—promoted to be much better than standard radio—to a lack of creativity in formatting the niche channels." :D

I thought this point from the article was good:

"'The industry is saying this could roll out gradually like FM did,' says Robert Unmacht, a partner in radio consultancy IM3 Partners. 'There's one problem with that. It's called broadband.'

And it's true. With broadband technology advancing so rapidly and new equipment for cars and home being rolled out on a weekly basis, it's becoming harder for HD Radio to compete. If iBiguity is projecting a portable HD Radio by 2009, where do you suppose WiMAX and internet-capable portable devices will be by that time?

Like the man said, the radio industry responded too late and is responding too little.

The subject for this thread has given me a great idea to make HD radio truly useful, and do a wonderful public service.
"HD Radio Still Taking the Rap", and putting all similar genre on HD2. That would save listeners the painful experience of putting up with the Rap when scanning across the analog dial.
Finally, a real, practical, publicly beneficial use for this otherwise destructive technology.

[Since there is no “thumbs-up” emoticon...]

I’ll just say “BRILLANT proposition SUPERCASTER!”

Tolerate some noise—eliminate A LOT more noise... HUMMM... It’s a “deal” on FM only though ;)
