I don't see this being a blockbuster move unless some other regular talk shows are thrown in the mix.

Oh.... I'm pretty sure that everybody knows that it won't be a Blockbuster move. I guess it's just supposed to fill a niche. It's a format that will fade away and they will try something else before to long. I think they are just experimenting with various formats at this point.I was pretty accurate with my prediction of them adding a talk format a few weeks back. But it was just an educated guess. They were running out of formats. I didn't really see much else that they could do. Talk with a business emphasis. O.K. I wasn't that far off. But they are also airing Imus and Yankees too. So they are throwing a little bit of everything into a giant bowl and hoping that it will taste OK. Well good luck with that.

They threw a little it of everything on the station when they ran the oldies format too so there was never much commitment there other than staying on the air after dumping sports. Now we all know how good Citadel is at doing business so the format is ironic. It would be the same with CC though. The answer to reducing household expenses is to throw people out of the house. That's radio's business mentality.

Its a format that, except for the Yankees, probably costs them as close to zero to do as anything else out there, with only an electric bill to pay, since Imus and their other talk programming to remain are pretty much at barter level right now..other than that its religious or some kind of ethnic programming to choose from..so goes the AM Band..

They are saving on ASCAP/BMI fees, bringing money in the door w/ Strategic Point and Yankees and the rest barter...sounds like very smart thinking. I find it very interesting that they were able to grab Strategic Point away from HJJ....somebody is asleep at the wheel over there

That's what I heard.Saving money on ASCAP/BMI fees is the decision to go in this direction. They also don't have to cut anyone on WPRO if WPRV is where they decided to save money.

Also the new website is up. I went to www.trueoldies790.com and it came up

I just went to the website and it says that Curtis Sliwa is on until Midnight. That was a surprise. I thought he was just local on WABC. He's syndicated now? I did not know that. I find that an interesting pick to air. Curtis Doesn't even have a show geared towards business. It looks like the term "BUSINESS" is meant in the very loosest possible way. Let's just say it's another Talk station.

Good point. As long as 790 is going to air syndicated talk that's not strictly business oriented, then my vote is for them to pick up Joey Reynolds' overnight show from Buckley's WOR 710. I think it would make a great alternative to "Coast to Coast", and the overnight BBC News on 1290.

Joey Reynolds hasn't had an affiliate around here since 1480 WSAR dropped it a while back, and it sure would be nice not to have to rely on Buffalo's 1520 or WOR 710 for reception. Let's face it......nighttime AM reception just isn't what it used to be. ;)

He's been syndicated for a few months. Started doing "live and local" (but from New York) from 10pm to 1am on Boston's 96.9 WTKK along with his home station, WABC. I believe he has since picked up a few other affiliates.

According to the article on the first page, the station's positioner is "AM 790". It will air 3 1/2 hours of Bloomberg programming per day, and if you throw in Dave Ramsey, it's 6 1/2 hours of financial-related talk programming.

Or.... it's 17 1/2 hours of other programming that's not business related. Understood. ;D

Big difference between "Business Talk" and "Business/Talk".
What they are doing is Business/Talk which is not a bad fit.
