Bustos Media is very interested in KSTN-1420 and 107.3

I recently had a talk with KSTN-1420 morning man John Hampton who told me that Bustos Media wants to acquire both KSTN's from the LaRue family. He told me that while the family isn't interested,Bustos is dangling big bucks in front of them.John also told me that Bustos is also interested in Modesto's KVIN-920 and KRVR-105.5 but was turned down there.

The LaRue's should take whatever amount he is offering triple it and then
tell him even if he tripled it again it would not be enough! All Bustos
Media is doing is asembling another mini empire of stations together for one reason and that is to sell it to another of the already too big
SuperMediaConglomerates that already have too many stations for their britches!
And it really frosts me to hear about what sounds like strong arm tactics
used to aquire stations. My god he already had a great station group and sold
it and then thought he would still be able to run it his way and found out that once you sell it the ones holding the licenses rule the roost. Just like Uncle
Mel and Randy Michael's already proved to be true so well! I would have never
let Mr. Bustos thru the front door of the station or received any calls from him. Maybe the LaRues have learned from the past and will not repeat it's mistakes. From what I've heard from friends that know the family well they like
being in the broadcasting business doing it their way! So take that Mr. Bustos!

What is interesting is that Bustos Media wasn't the first to try to buy the KSTN Combos and probably won't be the last. According to John Hampton, Since 2000, Clear Channel has been trying to acquire both KSTNs. Citadel was trying to acquire them back in 2002, before buying Silverado Broadcasting. Others that have been knocking on the door but turned down by the late Knox LaRue in the past include Entravision(for 107.3 only), HBC(now Univision), Mapleton Communications, Silverado Broadcasting(back in 1994), and Joseph Gamble Stations Inc(The original owners of KJAX-1280 and KJOY-99.3) to create a duopoly back in 1993. John feels confident that the LaRues will continue to turn potential suiters away. They want to continue the legacy created by their father, Knox LaRue,Sr.
