BUSTOS TAKING A "NAP"?

With Amador Bustos leaving his company and turning operations over to lenders, under the name of NAP Holdings, LLC, what will be the future of the satellite networks such as La Gran D? Will the lenders pull the plug?

Also, I'm curious to see if the new "Homero" Network, Bustos' response to "JOSE" will survive. The format looks well-programmed, although I've actually not heard an aircheck.

Could it end up being sold to one of the big companies like Univision, SBS, or Liberman?

SBS acquiring Bustos looks like a good option. They are good at syndication, with their line-up of El Chulo, La Bronca y El Mandril. But of course, it'll depend on how much money the giants in the industry have.

Someone told me they heard a Bustos station in Oregon calling itself "HOMERO" and I thought they were joking. I guess not. How low can these egomaniacs go? But I thought Bustos tried an aswer to JOSE a few years back and it failed (LA BONITA???).

I have long wondered how come the major market players (Univision, SBS, etc.) don't make a play for the Bustos stations. I figured a well programmed Regional Mexican network with a well-trained sales team would do well in markets such as Sacramento, Portland, Seattle and Milwaukee. Perhaps Univison and SBS are too proud to put music on AM or smaller FMs, but they would definitely serve and underserved segment on the population.

They have the technology and the talent, but perhaps not the initiative.

La Bonita was Liberman, not Bustos. Still, "HOMERO" to me seems like a rather unfortunate name... D'oh!

Whoever could get Piolín/El Chulo/Don Cheto to those markets could rake up a lot of cash rather quickly.

Bustos used the name first. Liberman still uses it in Houston and Dallas.

I think the other poster was kidding with the name of Bustos' long-time programmers, Salvador Homero Campos.

Piolin is already in markets like Portland and Yakima and Boise so there is not much opportunity there. Many of these are smaller stations in smaller Hispanic markets, thus the issues behind the financial situation.

La Bonita was years before José. José came after La Preciosa and La Bonita, which were all variants on the Recuerdo format that was originated over 10 years ago.

SBS tried smaller markets, and learned... and got out. Very tough to be on marginal signals in smaller markets in this economy.
