A dinner menu no less! I wonder if pie is on the menu? If so, will the Lovable One attend? ;D

Oh geez, Victoria Jones...

Joe Crummey will be there (via ISDN from his El Lay hut). As well as Jim Sharpe, who qualifies as both a former and current KFWhyEye host. ;)

Maryann Watkins, Cia Sun, Jan Ross, the late Jack Cole, Brian something, Herb Kalish, Bill Andres, Dr. Maureen Jones-Ryan-Fruitcake.

Will "Dr." Bob there endlessly shilling his phony "medicine"?

Did Charlie Van Dyke have a show? I always have to adjust the bass due to that wonderful booming voice.

With KPNX being CVD's flagship, I wonder if he is in Phoenix (or maybe he stuck to Dallas)? The late, great Brian James died in Scottsdale of a heart attack, which made me think KPHO was his flagship station.

The 25th anniversary party is at the Wrigley Mansion, a far cry from the usual saloons KFWhyEye uses for their smackdowns. Guess the economy must be worse than everyone thought for such a highfalutin place to host such a bunch of whack job listeners ....like Nurse Jeff and me!

Maybe Lee Tate will be there, Mark Williams (who I believe was fired on the air), Jamie McFarron (or however her name is spelled). So many memories... this makes me want to dig up my KFYI tapes from the 80s.

I liked Lee Tate. I remember Don Silverman and I think Stan Majors too (but I might be confusing that with another station's programming).

CVD has lived here in Phoenix continuously since 1982. While KPNX is his hometown station, I wouldn't say they're his flagship....he's also the voice for WABC-TV in New York and probably (I'll ask) is heard in all 11 markets above Phoenix.

A lot of people don't know that Charlie was KFYI's first PD...negotiated to secure the call letters from the station that had them...and, for a little over a year, was KFYI's first morning drive host, with the great Brad Messer doing news.

They were on for a few months after I arrived in March of '86...I never missed a morning...a great show.

Wasn't CVD either the AM drive host or PD in the early stages of KKFR 92.3
(the "fire station")?

IIRC it was a hybrid CHR/oldies format.

I'll ask. They were co-owned with KFYI...Charlie could have done "Fire" first. His voice was on the TV spots when I got to town.

I don't think he ever programmed it, but I recall they used him as a station voice for awhile.

I recall this progression of PD's:

Ralph Carroll
Steve Casey
Jim Gillie
Ron Haney
Ron Parker
Steve Smith
BStJ

...but I could be missing a few. We didn't call it 92 You're Fired FM for nothing.

Will Tom "combover boy" Leykis show up? Or does he have too many angry ex-wives in town? ;D ;D

Charlie was not the first PD of KFYI. Bob Grossfeld was. (which is ironic because Grossfeld was a Democrat, and somewhat of a liberal activist at the time, and still is) Charlie was, however, the first PD of KKFR. He was trying to syndicate an oldies R&B format called 'fire' that he developed and talked Fred Weber into using KJ country as the test rat. Charlie did a morning drive news block on KFYI when it signed on. Jim Jeffery, Mark's dad, did a PM drive sports talk show when the station signed-on. Quite a different station back then.

Well...in TV alone he's done the following over the years (top 12):

New York
LA
Chicago
Philly (he got what might just be the crown jewel of opens to VO...WPVI (just last month))
Dallas (on KDFW c.1980 and KTVT in the 90s at least)
San Fran (KTVU)
Houston (KPRC)
Atlanta (WSB in the 1980s and early 90s)
Detroit (WJBK c.1989)
Washington DC (WJLA in the 1980s)
Boston (WNAC in the early 80s before its revocation!)

That leaves all 11 markets above Phoenix covered - plus he's done Seattle, Tampa, MSP, Denver, Miami, Cleveland, Orlando, Sacramento, St. Louis, Portland...but not Pittsburgh (too much Ed O'Brien perhaps?). But clearing 24 of the top 25 (he's done Charlotte and Indy too) is not bad - in TV alone no less...and I don't think anybody else can match his TV and radio history.

...Tom's having too much fun sitting out his CBS contract to bother with an All-Fascists-All-The-Time Chump Channel Reunion ;D ...
