buy or sell 2.0

AS requested "easier to read"

With Powerball giving individuals *INSANE* amounts of
one LARGE ONE LUMP sum payments
(after taxes) this poses the question:

(1)
a.
what would that do if one wanted to "invest" into a cluster;
and from the Radio group's side of things, what markets would sell (their
stations) for what cost - and (b). and which markets would NOT
sell, no matter what the cost..

and (2)
would any market have stand alones that sell
one AM or FM operation (as in "jelli 94.9, vegas)
or a lower performing station w/in the cluster of
a market, be dumped and sold to an individual buyer

[hope this clears the air]

In other words, some one "inherits" or wins
200 + million dollars, what would that mean
for purchasing radio properties, throughout the US
-
This thread has posted before - what stations would
you conceivably purchase (either w/in your market or elsewhere)
and what formats would be your first choice.

The short answer is: none of the above

Most reasonable human beings would take the money, buy a big waterfront home somewhere and never think of working anywhere again- especially in radio.

I've got my ticket!

seriously - be a dream of mine
to oversee operations at a small to
mid-size market with a cluster of
sports(AM), rock and CHR . . .
(with HD-2) novelity formats : )

If* I dont win the powerball, Still want
to set up a first class online operation!

That still reads like a series of questions, the answers of which would depend on a thousand variables, permutations, and vagaries, but...

If you have mega-money to invest, the only way to go is internet/app-based. Work 24/7 to get some other investors and promote it like crazy. Godaddy-years-back-Superbowl-ad-it into a better investment.

The only way HD channels would help (except for the ego boost for the rich OM) is if you spent some of the mega-millions to buy HD radios.

If you only have a million to invest and you still want to work, then you could probably buy an FM (maybe with a free AM!) in a mid-market, and then throw in some internet/app-based programming, and you'd be on the right track.
But you'd be programming for a far smaller audience, with far smaller returns, with the same amount of work (24/7).

Good luck with it either way, though. :D

No decision at all for me.
With enough money, I'd immediately clear the sports yap off whatever AM 1000 Chicago
calls themself these days, get the Super CFL calls back and become the "Chicago Federation of Love".

And I'd be excited about going to work.
It would be great to bring it back to the Marina Towers on the Chicago River ( above the House of Blues)
and ride the el to work downtown. :)

'Course I'd have to PLAY the lottery to have a chance at this, and I'm just not inclined to gamble much.

(side note)

>>Did think of that WHY Doesnt a
station do "giveaways" of HD Radio's ??

(not in a dream scenario of a mega millionaire) but
a TRADE w/ the electronic store advertiser or
on a larger scale: a good old fashion radio trade
(say, clear channel and radio shack) as I am sure
I have heard Radio Shack ads, on a top40 countdown show
(either seacrest, hollywood top30, etc) _

at any rate, have a short term deal say at the
start of summer a radio station giveaway contest
....HD Radio's -

I know my market (Entercomm) is the most active
with the HD2-technology... but not enough to
pull off (above mentioned) mainly because they
use the HD-2 on FM, to rebroadcast AM stations
or a defunct format ( yes, seriously).

BUFFALO/107.7 flipped to simucast AM930,
and on HD-2: 107.7 you can still listen to the
classic rock/format (or online)...
