Buzz 1057 and Kiss FM - My commentary.

Just a thought here. The Buzz at first competed with B95, then lured Chuck and Kelly to their am show with the hopes of their following carrying over. Didn't happen. They were never in the Top 5 in morning shop ratings with the Buzz, but with B95 they were...Bad business decisions. The music on the Buzz changed, certainly not B95 style.

I say the Buzz make a serious format change... like quick..

On the Kiss, boring...Bring back DJ!!! Nope, realty is that will never happen. Fly should grab her. Not exciting to listen. All syndicated, yay!! Cough...Not much else to write about Kiss, RIP.

Of course they should flip it...but I highly doubt that they will. In today's culture of radio even mediocrity would be a massive improvement. With corporate owners holding most of the frequencies, they are usually just concerned with one cash cow station, and than just using the other frequencies that they own as "flanker" stations. Lets go back in time...to say 1990...At that time an under performing station like the Buzz would be long gone...but in 1990, a jock would be seriously reprimanded for running commercials directly into music or music directly into commercials, unless we were talking about a tiny station in an extremely small market. Today that is the norm. Massive amounts of dead air would likely cause the dismissal of a jock at that time. Today...standard operating procedure....Just last weekend I noticed WEXT running at least 24 hours straight dead air. This weekend that problem isn't occurring because they are begging for money. Recycling the morning team in afternoon drive would be considered ludicrous. Now...by all means pre-record them...who needs live radio...even in afternoon drive? Imagine the local AM news/talk powerhouse with "breaking news 24 hours a day" abandoned after about 6PM in the evening? I'd love to see how that local major explosion/fire/gas leak/whatever that occurs at 1AM gets immediate breaking coverage... ..

Format change to what?

Complain as much as you'd like..TV doesn't need local to succeed and... local shows tend to suck because they are low budget and lack the national talent and creativity required to keep pace with the rest of the broadcast day and tend to be the weekest link, goodbye! Look as much as we hate to admit it same goes for radio. Radio has a responsability to serve its community of license and it should. But if its entertaining and compelling listeners could care less where it comes from. If it satisfies their radio needs then it wins! That's why live mornings shows, tracked mids, afternoons and nights is the norm now. It can win the popularity contest, serve the community and decrease the overhead. All the things that companies now demand of their properties.

By all means, they should blow up the Buzz! A signal like that with ratings like that? Are you kidding me???

One of the former jocks told me that the Buzz tried to copycat B95s music and tried to have their jocks imitate them too. Well, they never got the music right, and their jocks at the buzz are alot more upbeat than B..But, you have to fit the format.

What would I do?? Switch the format to CHR. Period. However, No one is competing with FLY, B, GNA. These are the heavy hitters..
