Buzz drops ESPN???

According to an article in the Snooze and Observer, 850 The Buzz and 620 The Bull have decided to "drop" ESPN programming. I like the spin on that story. Why would ANY sports station not want the ESPN moniker? Mike and Mike in the Morning had decent ratings. If I recall they were still under contract, but I have to imagine ESPN pulled the plug on the Buzz. Big loss for those guys over there.

One would think, The Fan made a big impact on those guys in Bristol and The Fan will soon announce that they've acquired ESPN.
 
I heard several times on the Bull, today, a promo for the return of Imus.
 
ESPN Radio doesn't want stations to do anything but run ESPN 24/7.
To me, it's like listening to cats scratching chalk on a blackboard.
The ESPN brand means a lot more to get people to initially listen to a station, but it doesn't do much to keep people listening.

Kudos to The Buzz and The Bull. Even though I'd say Steve Czaben would be better than Imus. :)
 
Imus has certainly lost a lot of his "Interview Gets". His rotation of regular guests is much tighter and he often doesn't have a 6:30 guest. He lost a champion when Tim Russert passed away. He reports that he has more affiliates than ever. I suspect that after the election is over, he won't be as HOT as he is now with political guests.
 
It has been ESPN's MO to want stations to carry 100% of their programming. They canceled WSJS in Winston-Salem a few years back because we would only carry a limited schedule of programming. No big loss, in my opinion. Not sure what they will replace it with, but could be and interesting time for the Raleigh area.
 
A fairly reliable gossip monger inside CBC says 99.9 will be happy to take all ESPN programming except afternoons and canes. Mike and Mike will be on in the morning there. Announcement is coming any day now and will be used to save money and cover up red ink at a station with no ratings and bad sales. It makes sense for them.
 
If this does take place, i wonder if 103.1 which Capitol Broadcasting is moving
to the Rocky Mount/Wilson radio market will simulcast with 99.9 and ESPN Radio?,
if this happens, ESPN will probably drop their affilation with WRMT.
 
What was the reference to Curtis? I didn't see it in the story.
 
I met the PD and GM of 99.9 at a cool bar promo last year and the PD keeps sending me e-mails. Nice guys but completely delusional. They are laying off a good chunk of the air and prod staff and trying to spin it like this was the plan all along. Sad.
 
So a "slam" on someone who "is related to Curtis" is a slam on Curtis? Remind me not to hire Radioguy as my defense attorney :D!!!!!
 
Will the Packman still be on 620 The Bull? I know that his show (along with the ESPN Radio affiliation) moved to 620 The Bull after Triangle Sports Talk 1490/1090 died, but supposedly, 99.9 The Fan is keeping their local PM-drive show "The Insiders," which runs at the same time slot the Packman airs on The Bull.
Also, will The Fan still air Westwood One broadcasts (NFL football, etc.)?
 
Not to be judgmental naytchrboy...but if you are listening to NFL doubleheaders on the radio maybe you need a hobby.
