Buzz Music

Anyone think The Buzz sounding better lately? More variety, Marilyn Manson, more Rage, even KORN.... Also, HD2 sounds good as well...WIDE playlist. I 'punted' Sirius today. Between the 2 channels, I have my rock fix.

The Buzz has begun sounding better. They finally went back to playing The Cure and U2 in the regular rotation and they've taken the mid-daypart and made the music mostly 90's and recurrent hits. This of course has made The Buzz a little sluggish in playing new music in their top 10, but it still works.

I give the station a B to B+ from 6am-12am on Weekdays for a killer jock lineup, a morning show that's mostly worth listening to and about 80 to 85 percent on target with musical selection.

The Buzz is a boring station to digest on the weekends...

I've said it before and I'll say it again
1) Play GNR (lots) 2) Play A LOT more Rage 3) Play more Tool, more freqeuntly...

Even with out mixing in some other active rock tracks, this would make the Buzz 10 to 15 percent better.
Hey, if they're going to play Faith No More and Metallica, they might as well play the band that toured with them, GNR.

Just a thought.

Thought your Kenwood didn't receive the HD2 streams. Did you replace it with a different receiver?

Yes, luckily I was within my 30 day return period with Crutchfield. I sent the Ez900HDS back and re-ordered the Kenwood KDC-MP332 head unit and Kenwood KTC-HR100TR HD Radio Tuner w/Multicasting Ready. No way I was gonna spend that much money and not be able to do everything. I am very satisfied with my new setup and would recommend the same to anyone interested.

It couldn't hurt to play the hot new alternative acts you can hear on XM either. But I guess new alternative music that hasn't hit the top 10 alternative charts might be too much to ask.

I'm curious to know why you think the Buzz is a boring station to listen to on the weekends? The music and talent is consistant with what you find on the weekdays.

And as for GNR....that wouldn't fit the Buzz. Even though the occasional Metallica is thrown in, it is still an Alt Rock station.

The Buzz's talent on the weekends works because they're just reading liners, but I wouldn't say they are anywhere close to what you have on the weekdays.

As for the weekend music, it's getting slightly better.

I've been lobbying for a while for The Buzz to throw in heavier tracks, since I think the tonality or timber of much of the music they already play is headed in that direction.

The Buzz may call itself an alternative station, but the word "alternative" is elusive and pretty much means nothing anymore.

The truest since of an alt rocker these days seems to be KROQ, or if you want to lean mostly classic alternative and indie and pop, KITS (Live 105) in SF.

It always amazes me that people cast GNR into the classic rock bin because they are far from it. They were popular in the same years as Nirvana, AIC, Soundgarden, Pearl Jam and STP. All the aforementioned artists are acceptable for play on an alt. rock station, but not GNR and that befuddles me.

GNR is not some podunk rock band. They have at least four songs that can reach across the active/alternative divide.

And I wouldn't call what the Buzz does 'playing occassional Metallica.'

KTBZ has one of the best and most intensive Mandatory Metallica specialty shows I have ever heard. A few days ago, I counted Metallica being played 6 times in one day, according to yes.com and some mediabase info. This is hardly a band that is played 'ocassionally.'
While we're still talking a few plays less than the standard KLOL frequency of playing Metallica, it is very similar.

Look at The Buzz's top 10 songs and find me a song besides My Chemical Romance and Coldplay that isn't being played on harder-edged alternative stations.

You'll play a crapload of Puddle of Mudd, Kid Rock, Metallica, Creed, but no GNR??

Explain this logic to me.

well one thing, the weekend jocks...since when do they have the freedom that the weekday jocks have? not everyone is free to rant about whats new on the market, and so forth, but the music i agree with you on that one-
