The FCC nabbed a pirate at 90.5 from a pair of apartment dwellers in Brooklyn recently (as reported today,) who, of course, tried to lie their way out of it by saying "It wasn't us, it's from across the street!" -- though agents found the coax going to a rooftop antenna going through the apartment window.

One down -- how many to go? Maybe FCC agents will find this is not so bad a gig to do and will land other pirates. Or, someone else will be on 90.5 in 3 ... 2 ... 1.

I want to see some Newark pirates get nabbed especially the ones running 87.9, THEN I would be impressed.
 
They've been known to nab a couple of pirates a year. Of course, not only do they usually come back on the air, all the others remain on the air as well and new ones come on the scene as well. So I wouldn't exactly celebrate.

Streetz 96.5 from Newark would be a good one. Also whatever pirates are on 99.9 and 107.9 which I believe are from Newark also.
 
Forgot about that 99.9 Gorod FM pirate. They are from Brooklyn, but 107.9 Caribbean Zone Radio is from Elizabeth. Sad part is the FCC knows Streetz 96 is in East Orange and knows their address, but nothing has been done.
 
I think they are afraid to mess with streets fm, and others.

I don't really listened to pirate stations at all. I've heard that they used to have a pirate station in Brooklyn playing oldies with Hank Hayes and Jim Nazium back in the WHOT days at 91.5 when it was covered by WNYE after sign-off. WNYE was an NPR station at the time when WHOT finally nailed it to play oldies late at night.
 
Actually , for every one they remove, there is 2 more ready to fire up the old clandestine transmitter..
C'mon, you guys really expect it to stop ? As long as Big Business owns radio..the pirates have a better show ...
Thinking about starting my own pirate network.... Hats off to WBCQ 7.415 & 5.110 and Radio New York International for being our role model.
