Bye Bye Classic Hip Hop

I am trying to understand why SiriusXM got rid of both Backspin and The Rhyme. It just does not make any sense at all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sure it does. If they didn't dump those channels how would they get bandwidth for all the country, rock & one artsits channels.
You are still thinking that Mel wants to bring you stuff you can't here anywhere else.
Just keep in mind that Sirius/XM is now ad free FM radio and you can understand all the channel cuts.

I think you are misunderstanding my point. I know that there would be some elimination of the same formats. But why would you get rid of both channels. Those folk who like classic hip hop don't have an outlet for that music anymore via satellite radio.

I saw a post on another board which mentioned that The Rhyme was the lowest-rated of XM's Urban channels. I think that's hard to believe. However, if that was accurate, and knowing how Mel Karmazin and Co. operates, you can be sure that was the main reason it didn't survive the merger.

I tried listening to Shade over the weekend, and I couldn't stay there for more than 30 seconds. I personally don't care for any of the commercial hip-hop crap that Shade plays. There has to be some kind of balance.

....hip hop hooray for the return of both the strobe and backspin....that said, now can we get the groove (from xm 64) on sirius too, please!!!!

Sooooooo why doesn't FM radio do something like this?

There is a FM station that plays hip hop classics. Its in Arizona. I forgot what the frequency and calls.

According to this Backspin will be back on January 15

It was a mistake to get rid of Both the Rhyme AND Backspin it should have been 1 or the other.

There is still no true Urban formatted station on Sirius XM. Shade and Hip Hop Nation are both Uncensored Rap Stations. Neither are suitible for under 18 and neither really touch R&B much. The Heat does not know what Direction it wants to go. XM's The Heat was SUPERIOR as a Pure Rhythmic Station. Under Sirius XM it is trying to be part Urban Part Rhythmic Part Classic Hip hop and Urban AC all in 1 station, it is just a train wreck right now and needs to revert back to what it was under XM. The City needs to return and they need to bring back DJ Xclusive to run it.

.....well, okay, guess I`m still stuck on the idea of getting the strobe & the groove on one radio....what are the chances of hearing a true full-blown disco countdown show on new years eve as in the years past?....just another thought!

I think I've seen some news on it before. I think it was Energy 92.7 (pure dance) that flipped to Classic Hiphop. Both are unique formats nowadays.
