Bye Bye Jay!

From Greater Media:

"GREATER MEDIA TODAY ended its relationship with JAY SEVERIN. Our company has always encouraged a free and open dialogue on a variety of issues and topics, and we will continue to be guided by that principle. But we also demand that our on-air talent maintain an appropriate level of civility, and adhere to a standard that respects our listeners and the public at large.

JAY SEVERIN has been an important part of what we have accomplished with 96.9 WTKK-FM since its inception in 2000 and for that we are grateful and wish him well in future endeavors. Unfortunately, it had become clear at several points in the past two years that JAY was either unwilling or unable to maintain our standards on the air. It's for that reason we have made the decision to end our relationship.

In the interim, MICHAEL BOWER will be assuming the on-air duties from 2-6 each day on WTKK while we review our long-term programming plans for that time slot."

At least now you won't be tuning into Bowerino to see whether it's Bower, Severino or both.

Keeping the seat warm for Howie next year?

Who, if anyone in this market will pick him up off the waiver wire, or is GM putting him on the beach with pay for the rest of his contract preventing him from landing somewhere else.

1200 can't afford him IMHO, but Entercom could put him in Morning drive, or put him in the mid day or evening spots currently filled with syndicated programming.

We'll have to see where he lands, it will be interesting to see if he is able to find employment in the business, or if he can go peddle his alleged political consulting expertise to a candidate in the 2012 election cycle.

I wonder if there's a pre-nup... ouch.

Globe, Herald have bits, basically mentioning the GM press release. I don't know if Bower will be the permanent replacement...maybe shift Graham to the slot for now (after a bit more of Bower). Howie at TKK by fall of next yr
in pm or am drive slot? We'll see! RKO could pick Jay up off waiver wire, not sure about XKS indeed.

Jay did work late nights (10-mid) for RKO before.

The Mike Bower era begins.

""Coming up today on the show, we're talking about the brands you, 110 per cent, miss. We will find out how different disconnecting would be, if we pulled the plug. "

Something that isn't being talked about here is that with Severin gone and no permanent host in the 6pm-10pm spot, could Greater Media be considering changing formats on WTKK? The station's ratings are down, programming isn't being permanently replaced, etc. Could we be nearing the end of talk radio on 96.9?

he should go to Talk 1200....................then the next topic on the Boston Radio-Info board will be Bye, Bye KATZ !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :)

They do have that pesky Jim and Margery contract, Graham too, but yes...

Better yet put some of the 1200 shows on 96.9 and make 1200 something else. Rush, up next on 96.9. (Clr Chnl gets to clear their shows via Greater and can do something else with their 1200)

Why would anyone want the guy who finished 16th in his market and time slot? Stick a fork in him. He is finished. And I cannot say I'm sorry.

No one to blame but his arrogant self.

Knowing that Greater Media will never do anything outside of the Adults 25-54 demographic, is there anything else within that demo that they could be doing with 96.9? I got to hear the Gen-X format in St. Louis recently; it's a really cool concept, but that would go head-to-head with 92.9.

In the end, talk seems like the only real option (they also have a very nice talk studio).

could they lean towards sports with espn 24/7?? like in philly!! just ideas nothing to hurt no one!!

GM should seriously consider CHR. Is no one going to take on Kiss?

Nobody's been able to beat Kiss since 1979, why should things be anything different now?

I doubt 'RKO would be sympathetic to Jay and pull him in, unless they're ready to go totally balls out with their programming in a "take no prisoners" format. Maybe that's what it'll take? Let the hosts go nuts! Ad dollars are down, why not go for broke?

An Adult CHR to try and flank Mix & Kiss to protect MJX would be my guess should they spin the "Wheel Of Formats" on WTKK.

Imus is laughing into his oxygen mask. I don't think Michaelgraham is the answer here. They'd best go with syndication til Howie comes aboard, at an extremely reduced rate.
