bye bye The Beat

I haven't listen to the Beat up in the Killeen/Temple area since they moved to 104.9 last February and when I listened to them whenever I came down to Austin, they didn't sound the same when they were on 104.3. I missed it when it was The Beat 104.3 I wished that Entercom would have never sold that frequency and the Beat was getting better at the time; having a good competition against 93.3 but the Beat couldn't beat them on 104.9 because the signal was so small. Somebody needs to resurrect the Beat and put it on a signal that can be heard throughout the whole city and the surrounding areas.

Mhh, I wonder what will be of the 92.5 signal. It seems like Digital is promoting 104.9. Wouldn't be surprised to see something pop up on 92.5 soon.

This move should vault KDHT 93.3/99.7 back to the top of the list of the ranked stations in Austin. Adding 104.9 to 92.5 will add the West part of Austin to their coverage area. What doesn't make sense is the fact that The Beat had better numbers than Digital. This must have been about sales, not shares.

What a shame, that station could of been more. If BMP would believe in HD they could upgrade KHHL and put the beat on HD-2.

I guess they had visions of duplicating Univision's success with KBBT in San Antonio.

Does that mean that Univision might be thinking about bringing the "The Beat" to Austin with KINV? There isn't much local advertising on it.

Who knows? It all seems weird. But it is consistant with the "Keep Austin Weird" mentality.

I think that question has likely been answered with KINV's flip to Tu Musica. I wouldn't expect Univision to be interested in hip hop in any way, shape or form since they effectively dumped it in the first place.

The Beat had a chance. If they would have cHANGED UP There Music List. Hot 93.3 isn't very good I think and give them another year before there off air.

If Entercom would have just kept 104.3, they would probably still be in the Top 10. I like that station a lot before it went to 104.9. To me, before 104.9, the station felt like what Austin was all about; Fun, energetic, diverse, exciting, entertaining, etc. Last night when I was on I-35 going through Georgetown, I heard a statement on Hot 93.3 saying "all former listeners of The Beat 104.9, we welcome you to Hot 93.3 and we throughout the years The Beat was a very good competitor and we had fun throughout this time. We are not going to be like Kiss FM and we promise you that we will give you the best in local music and non-stop Hip-Hop for the ATX. Thank You." After I heard that statement, I said to myself "I hope they do what they said they will do" because when the beat first left back in '04, 93.3 went downhill as far as programming and the playlist because they were the only Hip-Hop station in Austin. Hopefully this time around they will step their game up and add some features that The Beat did on their station to keep it as a real Hip-Hop station until somebody start up another Hip-Hop and R&B station for Austin that will cover the whole city and surrounding areas.

Nothing occurs in a vaccuum. This was also about a year after Emmis acquired the LBJ stations. It could be by that time Emmis was putting its stamp on the local product. After all they were successful in NY and LA, why not put their ''magic'' to work in Austin.

I don't think think Hot will change format, if the numbers don't go up they'll probably reposition themselves and maybe throw in a few pop/dance tunes into their Rhythmic format to compete against 96.7 if they're not doing it already.
