Bye Bye WIBR

I spotted a report this morning that Cumulus has turned in the license for WIBR. A lot of history went through those towers (and the ones before on the north side of Capitol Lake).

If you are curious about how a license is cancelled, it's sadly simple: http://licensing.fcc.gov/cgi-bin/prod/cdbs/forms/prod/getimportletter_exh.cgi?import_letter_id=93868

I used to listen to Astros games in the 90s and early 2000s on “The Team 1300.”

I lived in Walker, so the nighttime reception was spotty, but I made it work.

I was involved in ownership of WRBC 1300 Jackson MS in the late 70s; it was non-directional D/N. I recall WIBR 1300 being quite directional to protect us day and night (WIBR protected other stations as well, at night). Running directional day and night added significantly to its cost of operation, and the nulls made the station less competitive. So no surprise they decided to pull the plug on this facility.
