Cable Access Programming

Has anyone here had any experience with putting together a cable access program? I am going to take a workshop in July that Comcast sponsors and it sounds like it gives you some pretty good info. Part of the ciriculum is that in the end you have to produce three "episodes" of a show that depending how well they are done could be shown on the local access channel. I've worked on a cable access program as a talent (research, show up, do the interview, etc) but not in the actual nuts and bolts department. Judging by what I'm seeing on channel 25, I think I've got a pretty good show in mind. I've talked to some local places that cater to that type of entertainment and have some real interest brewing. I've talked about the concept to friends and folks that are trying to get exposure in that area and they say it could work if done right.Any thoughts?

I don't understand why it is a requirement to go through a workshop before you can create a public access show. I think it is because they don't want to air a cheap VHS tape produced on a home camcorder with the overly-sensitive built in microphone.Cobb County mentions this on the county government website for the cable franchising authority (They are the ones who can require the PEG channels on the cable system).Go figure.
