Cable amplifier theft

http://www.11alive.com/news/article_news.aspx?storyid=111266

There has been a rash of cable amplifier thefts around Metro Atlanta, possibly by former Comcast employees or subscontractors. A $15,000 reward has been set up to capture the theives.

Apparently, this is a big problem. A cable industry group in Georgia says a million dollars worth of amplifiers ($500 each) were stolen in the last 18 months. These theives are apparently stealing them, and selling them to the black market in South America.

Sounds like to me they need to start putting GPS on these things.

Maybe this will cause Comcast to finally start doing some sort of background screen on their employees.

One of their technitions broke into my house two weeks after coming on a service call. Luckily, we have a security camera mounted above our door and they arrested him. Found out he had a criminal history that was six pages long.

It seems that you can't trust anyone anymore these days. You also probably wonder why the cable companies insist on site visits to houses on minor problems like channel difficulties (which is usually the station's or headend's problem) and converter troubles (which is easily taken care of with a visit to the cabler's office).

It could be worse -- even fiends don't let friends get Charter.
