Are you referring to any cable channels EXCEPT for the shopping ones that have proliferated the 2-13 range the last 20 or so years? In other words, cable systems that still have the old-line cable networks like CNN, ESPN, TBS on 2-13 as was fairly common on a lot of systems in the '80s and as recently as the early '90s in many places?

Comcast in Springfield, IL:

2--WICS Springfield (ABC)
3--WCIA Champaign (CBS)
4--Public Access
5--Local Advertising (in name only--more like "national infomercial" channel)
6--WBUI Decatur (CW)
7--WRSP Springfield (FOX)
8--WSEC Jacksonville/Springfield (PBS)
9--WGN America
10--WAND Decatur (NBC)
11--HSN
12--WILL Urbana (PBS)
13--QVC

Also local MyNet affiliate WCIX Springfield is on cable channel 19, for some reason. Plus the subchannels and our market's 3rd PBS station (WEIU Charleston) in the hundreds in the digital never-never land.

One of Comcast's Chicago-area systems has ESPN on 3, TVGN on 4 (though that is understandable) and USA on 10.

Cox in Phoenix doesn't have anything of the sort—in fact, the closest we've come is having TBS on channel 7 in the late 90s and early-2000s (it was displaced in a swap that gave KUTP a better cable position and also moved the Cox local origination channel), and WGN was on 4 for a few years. HBO also had a channel 4 position for years; later on a "Digital Preview Channel" sampling the various digital networks was added to channel 2.

Not even C-SPAN is on a low number anymore: it was made digital-only on channel 124 this past month. The only things between 2 and 13 are local channels (KNXV is, of course, on 15), the aforementioned Cox channel, and government access on channel 11. WGN remains in the original 2-22 limited cable block, though TBS moved up recently. Cox's other systems in AZ are similar.

The Casa Grande system was an oddball though. While quite a few of its channel positions resembled Phoenix, others didn't. Oh yeah, and it had KVOA, KGUN and KOLD from Tucson. In November 2003 KGUN was removed and there was a massive channel lineup change that transformed all but the basic channels into a dead ringer for Phoenix. (KVOA and KOLD held on at new channel positions; KOLD was displaced from 13 for KAZT, while KVOA wasn't at 4 anyway.) KVOA and KOLD remained until June 2008—I blame syndex.

A few notes about the local cable TV companies I mentioned earlier:

Comcast Cablevision of Mobile (Alabama) provides programming from WFGX-TV on cable TV channel 19 (there are no channels 14, 15, 16, and 17 in their cable TV system) and WDPM-TV (Daystar) on cable TV channel 176 in their system.

Mediacom Communications in Mobile provides programming from WFBD-TV (BLAB TV, a local broadcasting company based in Pensacola, Florida) on cable TV channel 21 (they have no channels 14, 15, 16, 19, and 20 in their cable TV system) in their system.

Comcast Cablevision of Mobile currently does not provide programming from WFBD-TV and Mediacom Communications in Mobile currently does not provide programming from WDPM-TV.

WOW! Cable (Formerly Knology) in Madison, Alabama:

2 (blank, formerly WGN America which Knology abruptly dumped earlier this year)
3 School Board Channel
4 WZDX Huntsville (Fox)
5 WAFF Huntsville (NBC)
6 *QVC*
7 (blank, formerly HBO which got moved to Digital)
8 WZDX-2 (MNTV, branded as "My 8")
9 WHNT Huntsville (CBS)
10 WHIQ Huntsville (PBS/Alabama Public TV)
11 Local Programming/Community Bulletin Board
12 WAAY Huntsville (ABC)
13 *HSN*

WHDF (CW) Florence is on Channel 15.

Charter Cable in Jackson, TN:

2 CW Plus
3 WREG CBS 3 in Memphis
4 News Channel 5+ from WTVF CBS 5 in Nashville - This one is odd because Charter doesn't carry WTVF any more. This used to be the location for WSMV NBC 4 in Nashville.
5 WMC NBC 5 in Memphis
6 Empty since they dropped WTVF
7 WBBJ ABC 7 in Jackson
8 Empty since they moved the national feed from ION to 107
9 WJKT Fox 16 in Jackson
10 WKNO PBS 10 in Memphis
11 WLJT PBS 11 in Lexington, TN (Jackson area)
12 WGN America
13 WHBQ Fox 13 in Memphis

Channels 6 and 8 being empty makes no sense to me. It looks like they could be used for something, whether it's to get WTVF and WSMV in Nashville back, or to put WBBJ's 7.3 subchannel and the local access channel there and free up channels 16 and 22 for other cable channels.

USA on 2-13 is getting darn rare nowadays. We used to have USA about 20 years ago on Channel 2 IIRC. Prime Sports NW was on 6 for a while before KONG-16 came on the air. CNN was on 10 on Viacom Cable circa 1991 in Seattle.

One important note to point out is that being on channels 2-13 does NOT necessarily mean being on the limited basic tier (or whatever the equivalent name is). For example, on the Cox San Diego South lineup I posted either, USA (2) and ESPN (3) are on "TV Essential" a.k.a. expanded basic. And in order to watch XDTV (Channel 13 - My Network TV), the customer must have either a cableCARD or have a digital receiver with any level of service.

I think it's hilarious how almost every TV thread here devolves from a specific question ("What cable systems still carry national cable networks on channels 2-13") into everybody simply offering up lists of things, whether they're relevant to the original question or not. One of those curiosities of the R-I/R-D board landscape, I guess... :)

Getting back to the original question, on TWC in Rochester NY, only QVC (2) and WGN America (3) still remain among the lowest channels. In the past, we've had Animal Planet (replacing the old WWOR syndex feed) and TBS down there, too, but those long ago moved to higher positions.

The person who started this topic actually asked, "Are there any cable lineups near you that still carry cable channels in the 2-13 range?" How could you assume the person was referring to national programming services based on this question (it appeared simple to me and other users)?
