Cable channels with distant "local" ads

My cable TV comes from Charter Cable in Jackson, TN, which is in West TN about 70 miles NE of Memphis going toward Nashville. However certain cable channels will have local ads for businesses in the Knoxville/Tri Cities area, which are in East TN. On these channels there are no local ads for businesses in the Jackson area. I get the impression that Charter probably retransmits these channels complete with the local ads from the Knoxville area to West TN, and it may even be possible that some channels are retransmitted from Jackson to the East with Jackson area ads still intact. Does this happen anywhere else? Thanks! ;D

Why aren't you getting channels from Memphis or Nashville instead?

I think the poster was talking about the local commercial breaks on the national cable channels, such as ESPN, CNN, etc. The Charter system in Jackson does get local stations from Memphis and Nashville.

They probably are using an interconnect, similar to Comcast and Charter here in Atlanta. The lineups for the expanded basic and digital are the same across the entire multi-county service area, but the locals and PEG's are different for each individual community/county.

They probably do not have the money to do local ad inserts for Jackson, probably due to lack of interest or demand. They just pass along the ads in the signals from the master headend located in the east end of the state.

One way to find out...check the lineups for Jackson and Knoxville, and see if they match up 30+ and digital.

This is what the magic of fiber-optics brings you.

Yes, I was referring to cable channels, not the broadcast stations from Memphis and Nashville. (There are also 3 Jackson area broadcast stations.) I know they'll have local ads for their areas.

jal41,
I'll try checking other areas to see if the channels for Charter line up. Thanks for the suggestion.

I checked Charter in Alcoa and Kingsport, which are in the Knoxville area, (Knoxville actually has Comcast), but the expanded basic and digital channel lineups aren't the same as Jackson. I do believe though that jal41's idea on why the Knoxville area ads are on some channels is probably right though. Thanks for the information!
