Cable News Prank Calls

I was on youtube.com the other day and came across some videos with prank calls on them. These people called networks such as CNN and FOX News. Take a look. Im surprise these get onto air, it doesn't make FOX News look good at all even CNN got a prank call. Not sure how old the videos are.

FOX News prank call guy named Bob saying Kidd Chris's name and WYSP

Not sure if this was on TV or radio, but Larry King had something which may or may not have been a prank call which he called the "Chinese Caller" or something like that. I have a fuzzy memory of it. Can anyone fill in?

People need to stop doing that. That is wrong and stupid and not funny.

Prank phone calls are just like death and taxes. They will always be with us.

Just the other day my wife and I were at out local Target. Someone called the store asking for a [EDIT]
And of course the young girl who took the call went on the store's intrercom saying "...is there a [EDIT]in the store? You have a phone call ....Phone call for a Mister [EDIT]!!" Ah, the whole store pretty much knew what was going on. All that is except the poor young girl who took the call and made the announcement on the PA.

The [EDIT] prank came from the movie Porky's. Porky's came out 25 years ago !!

I guess some people have too much time on their hands.

[EDIT-profanity]

Well, those prank calls on Fox Noise and CNN are NOTHING compared to those on C-SPAN, and they're on YouTube as well.

True, but those are on call-in shows. Too easy. That's why a lot of those guys stopped calling Larry King. Not much of a challenge.

What makes the news channel ones notable is that often, the prankers are posing as authority figures. Witness how ABC got burned by that "I see O.J." call years ago. For a while, quite a few Stern fans were posing as fire captains, politicians, and other people who were close to the story, and they were able to get on the air without the network doing any checking. In addition, they kept the anchors going for several minutes before the "Baba Booeys" started flying. Also happened with the Oklahoma City bombing and other incidents.

For call-in shows, though, the ones to Mother Angelica on EWTN were hilarious.

Anyone remember a Sternie getting through to Dan Rather during the Columbia disaster? He said a big chunk of the shuttle landed in his yard, and went on to say it was big and white and it looked like one of Bababooie's teeth. Rather, of course, had not the slightest clue what was going on till one of his producers filled him in, after which he informed the audience that Bababooie was part of the Howard Stern radio show.
Way to go, there, Dan-o!

Well 2 things on this:
First of all, we should not be giving these prank callers any more attention, they don't deserve any, and this thread just gives them more publicity, which will only feed them and make them do it again.

Second, the fact that these prank calls get on the air only shows that the producers of these network newscasts have not thought through the fact that prankers will always call. Put another way, "taking phone calls" during a national broadcast is a risky business, and any news producer who thinks this is a novel idea for filling time, should either think to have these calls screened first, or be disciplined for not doing so.

The bottom line is, it takes two to tagno, and both of these conditions lead to some publicity hungry prank phone callers getting on the air, it should never be allowed to happen. This is the same reason I don't care for the undermoderated message boards on CBSNews.com . It only attracts trouble.
