Do any cable companies still do this?
Back in the mid 90s when I lived in Zion, IL with U.S. Cable Of Lake County, the following were shared:
21: QVC 5AM-12AM Adam & Eve (Spice's porn sister network) 12AM-5AM
61: TBN 5AM-7PM VH1 7PM-5AM
I'm sure they had an infomercial network in there somewhere as well. Back around 1996 EVERY channel (even Nick @ Nite complete with stopping the informercials for commercial breaks) ran paid programming overnights.
after we moved in 1997, TCI then AT&T then Comcast took over. They put Travel Channel and RAI together. I think Comedy Central was paired up with Shop @ Home for a time as well.
They didn't have enough space for sporting events for The Sports Channel so they would cut off the Preview/TV Guide Channel and put The Sports Channel in its place until the game was over.
Here in Wisconsin, Time Warner puts Animal Planet on Channel 43 from 8AM-2AM. From 2AM-8AM they replace it with a feed of Access TV (Infomercial network). During BET's religious programming and daily from 3AM-8AM, they did the same with BET. Not sure about now.<P ID="signature">______________
