I found this interesting article from the Brookline (Mass.) Tab newspaper reporting on a rather nasty cable television franchise renewal fight between Comcast and Brookline's Selectmen.
The Selectmen have unanimously voted against a franchise renewal, but at least for now, Comcast will continue to provide cable-TV service to Brookline. (Could you imagine the kind of outcry there would be if the Brookline Selectmen had ordered Comcast to shut down their Brookline cable-TV system as of June 29th, the end of the license term, which would have deprived thousands of cable service??)
Expect a nasty court case.
FYI, the New England region of Comcast's CN8 cable network is headquartered in Brookline (at Amory Street, a short walk from Commonwealth Avenue and a "T" Green Line trolley stop), and most of CN8 New England's studio-based programs originate from there.
