"Cable" TV Report - Brattleboro, VT - 2/8/2011

You folks are spoiled; even the worst hotel cable systems does not compare to the really crappy TV (not cable) systems experienced by many of us. I will start a thread soon but not sure where on the boards to place it- national TV, classic TV, DX and reception etc. I was wondering why KML could not hook up the Batwing to the older TV-not that it would have done much good since that area is a pit. Even Keene would be tough. Go 20 MI W on RT 9 and you have LOS for 75 mi S and SE.

Hooking the antenna up on the TV was possible. I didn't do it, knowing that there'd be no reception. The TV was from 2000, meaning it would've had an analog tuner only. :(

I see-I used to have a HH color TV and would take it when camping or to watch a show on the go or just to see what I could get OTA and the reception in that area near exit 3 got slim to no pickins with slim leaving town fast.
Go N to a hilltop and you would get 31 and 41 but there ain't many hilltops near the river.

Yeah. My family and I used to vacation in Brattleboro. I remember getting no reception on my my pocket sized TV. Then again it would scan for the channels. It didn't have a manual tuner. Anyway what I was impressed with for reception was Crystal Clear reception of 2,500 watt WXCT AM 990 (then WNTY) from Southington, Connecticut. It was 6:30AM on a morning in August 2001. I wasn't using any special equipment either. I don't remember if it was on my Walkman or if I brought a bigger radio with me.

Before the scanning HH color TV, I had a Sony B and W with manual tuner and the only ones i could get in BB were a weak ch 9 manchester and a weak UHF cannot remember the channel. neither worth watching. And the vagarites of AM reception...

The weak UHF channel was likely channel 41 from Windsor, VT (PBS) or channel 52 from Keene, NH (PBS). As for the AM band, there are only two local AM stations licensed to Brattleboro. Those would be WTSA-AM 1450 and WKVT-AM 1490.

If I stay there again, I'm bringing a mini antenna and hook it up to their TV. I was able to get an analog/digital scan going. However, a paper clip in the Connecticut River Valley isn't going to pull in anything.

And you’ll definitely get nothing unless you bring along a digital converter, unless that hotel happens to have HDTV’s. You’de probably be better off with a laptop and a digital/USB stick.
