"Cable" TV Report - Brattleboro, VT - 2/8/2011

I'm presently at the Super 8 Motel on US Route 5/VT Route 9 in Brattleboro, VT (near Exit 3 of I-91). The good news? The TV and the remote don't say "LodgeNet". The bad news? A crappy lineup:

65- Speed
67- NESN
69- FOX News Channel
71- MSNBC
73- Cartoon Network
77- ESPN 2
81- TNT
83- TBS
89- FX
91- CNN
93- HBO 2
101- HBO
103- WCVB-TV (ABC) channel 5 Boston
105- WHDH-TV (NBC) channel 7 Boston
107- ESPN
109- USA
111- Discovery Channel
113- Lifetime
115- WBZ-TV (CBS) channel 4 Boston
117- TLC
119- WFXT-TV (FOX) channel 25 Boston
121- The Weather Channel [with a local 05301 zip code insert]
123- WGBH-TV (PBS) channel 2 Boston [although the channel card said "Family"]
125- CNBC

I'm surprised that WVTA-TV (PBS) channel 41 of Windsor, VT (Vermont Public Television) wasn't on this lineup. I guess it's what we get for having Windham County, VT being on the fringe of the Boston/Worcester TV market. :-\

Perhaps 123 was the Family Channel until they decided to carry a PBS station?

A couple of years ago I stayed at a motel up the road in White River Junction, and it didn't have Vermont Public TV either. But they did have WCAX, along with all the Boston locals.

Zoinks! What the hell did they do? The last time I was at that hotel - Summer of 2001 they carried the full local Adelphia Cable line-up. (I know Adelphia became Comcast).

Except for a slight change in the Super 8 logo, it's likely the same as when you were here...except for the Wendy's which is right next to it now. Yeah...No LodgeNet crap, but the locals are limited to the 5 stations I mentioned. No Vermont ETV (PBS) or New Hampshire stations. WTF? :(

The TV looks to be a Haier 32" LCD HDTV, model number HL32D2S. The cable is hooked directly to the back with no converter box or anything. Heck...at one point I unhooked it and used a paperclip as a cheap antenna. Sadly, that scan yielded absolutely nothing. I hope they don't mind that I adjusted the picture and put the picture into it's proper 4:3 ratio, since these channels are analog. ;)

What was up with the channel numbering--65-125 and only odd numbered channels used? ??? ???

Let me copy+paste what I put in the other thread on this subject:

"Given how it skips every other channel, I would bet they're using consumer-grade TV modulators to do it. I have a device that will take in 4 composite video/RCA audio feeds and output them on four non-consecutive analog channels, either OTA 14-64 or cable 65-125 (but not 95-99)."

Wendy's next to the hotel? You mean they replaced The McDonald's with a Wendy's? ???

I remember there used to be 3 ABC stations - WCVB/5 Boston, WMUR/9 Manchester, and WCDC/19 Adams. (Repeater for WTEN - Albany).

And there used to be 3 PBS Stations - Vermont Public Television, New Hampshire Public Television, and I believe WGBH.

Man, that's terrible!

Local cable in Brattleboro offers up plenty of other locals, including WMUR Manchester and WCDC Adams (both ABC, as Marc noted), WCAX (CBS), WZMY Derry, NH (My), WVTA (PBS), WENH (PBS), WLVI, WSBK, and WNNE Hartford, VT/WRJ/Lebanon (NBC). People who stay at that hotel get totally ripped off as far as TV is concerned.
