Cables made from gold

If you own the cable company that is...

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (abc40) -- It could soon cost you more to watch your television. Cable prices are going up.

Comcast rates went up, effective Monday. Charter Communications customers can expect to see a hike in January. Both companies already raised rates once this year.

In a statement to ABC40, a Comcast Representative attributes the latest hike to the "challenging economic enviorment, including healthcare costs, gas prices, increases in the cost ... [of] programming, and technology and service improvements."

The average Comcast customer will see a 3.6 percent spike in their next bill.

A Charter Communications Representative could not specifiy the average increase.

What's funny is that I have had many dealings with some major cable companies (Cablevision, etc), namely the heads of the companies, and I can tell you the reason. If it wasn't for subscribers all the money they waste would put them out of business.

Bleep 'em, until I can get a-la-carte selection of channels I'm not supporting stuff I'll never watch like the Golf channel, or MTV.
